Welcome to the South Dorset Hunt Branch of the Pony Club

Thank you for visiting our website which we hope you find fun and informative!!  We pride ourselves on being a very welcoming, friendly club that aim to provide lots of wonderful opportunities for our Members and their ponies.

The South Dorset Pony Club was founded in 1931 and still has strong ties with the South Dorset Hunt.  We are a branch of approximately one hundred members and our area stretches from Poole in the East to Blandford in the North and Dorchester in the West encompassing some of the UK’s most beautiful scenery.

As you are no doubt aware The Pony Club is a National Organisation that is split into areas.  We are in Area 14 and our Area Representative is Louly Thornycorft.  Area 14 consists of nineteen pony clubs situated in Hampshire, Dorset, Avon, Somerset and the Channel Islands. Area competitions are held every year which can lead to qualification for the National Pony Club Championships held at the end of August.  Anybody can apply to be in one of our teams and we will then enter you for the Area Championships. You can find more information on Area 14 on the Pony Club Area 14 Web Page. The National Pony Club website also provides information about the benefits of being a member plus current updates on rules, tests, training and all the many opportunities that being a Pony Club member can offer.

Like all pony clubs we are run by volunteers and we are really lucky to have a wonderful Committee who work very hard to organise lots of rallies and fun events for all our Members.  A list of all our current committee members can be found on here.

Recently we have introduced an online booking system for rallies.  All you have to do is visit On Line Booking page of this website.  All the available rallies will be listed and you can choose what you would like to book onto.  We provide a very comprehensive forward programme that is emailed to all our Members and updated regularly.

We also have a very active Facebook Page where lots of information on Members achievements and details about rallies and competitions can be found. Area 14 and the National Pony Club also have their own Facebook and Instagram Pages which keep everyone up to do with what is happening both in our Area and Nationally.

An important part of Pony Club has always been about learning to look after your pony or horse and we encourage all our Members to take their care badges and to be working towards taking their tests.  Usually E and D tests are taken at camp with special training sessions laid on throughout the year for C and C+ tests.  Higher tests like B test and A tests are run through Area 14 who organise specialist training and the all important test days.

One of the highlights of the year is Pony Club Camp which is run for minis/juniors and seniors during the Summer Holidays.  Not only do we organise top class instruction we also arrange for interesting talks and guest trainers who are usually professional riders.

In February we hold our Members Evening where we can celebrate our Pony Club Year and present awards to the Members who have improved or achieved something very special.

We are the South Dorset Hunt Pony Club and as such have very strong ties with hunting in our area.  Our Master actively encourages our Members to come out hunting and organises special Pony Club days with heavily discounted rates.

If you have any queries about anything that you have read or require any further information on our Club then please do not hesitate to contact either of us and we will aim to answer any questions that you might have.
