Rallies are small training sessions that take place throughout the year, often on a weekly basis at the following locations:

  • Moreton EC
  • Bovington RAC Sadle Club
  • Rushall Lane, Corfe Mullen
  • Kings Stag, Sturminster Newton

The children are usually divided three groups based on age and ability –

Minis: Up to the age of 9

Juniors: A Mini becomes a Junior on their 9th birthday – they don’t have to wait until the January of the following year

Seniors: A Junior becomes a Senior on their 13th birthday – they don’t have to wait until the January of the following year

In our Pony Club we have tried to maintain some flexibility or fluidity within this structure. Children will not be pushed up a level if they don’t feel quite ready, equally children may from time to time be asked to go into a higher group for a rally in order to accommodate as many children as we can on that day. (It does not make financial sense for us to have one group running at a loss and turn children away from another.) Any movements of this kind are for the day only, and entirely at the discretion of the rally organiser. Any other movements from Minis to Juniors or Juniors to Seniors, ‘early’ ie before their 9th or 13th birthday, can only be approved by the Chief Instructor.

They may be working on one specific discipline – show jumping (SJ), dressage/flatwork, cross country (XC), arena XC or grid work. Training rallies, where relevant, correspond to upcoming shows and competitions. During warmer months we often combine disciplines into a full day rally which might also include some pony club games.

NEW: ‘Have a go’ Polo rallies at The New Forest Polo School in February and in March. No prior experience is necessary for either pony or rider!

To book onto a rally contact the rally organiser as detailed on the forward programme. Rallies may book out so please give as much notice as possible if you have to cancel as another child may be able to take your place.

Ponies / horses and riders should be clean and well turned out at rallies but it is not necessary to plait manes or tails. The Pony Club rule book details all the information about correct turnout, but the basic requirements are on the Dress Code page. Please help us maintain these standards.
