MarieWelcome to the SH & RH Eventing page!

Our branch has achieved some great results in the past few years…particularly given that we are a relatively small branch in one of the strongest PC Areas, Area 9. Our Area qualifying competitions therefore, are against some of the most competitive branches in the country!

In 2013 our Intermediate Eventing team of: Olivia Hale, Hannah Prestwich, Lucy Turner and Phoebe Nicholson, qualified for the Pony Club National Championships and placed 6th and Phoebe  placed 2nd individually.

In 2014, Phoebe represented the branch at the PC National Championships at Open level and placed 4th individually.

Phoebe and Llanstephan Brennan (aka Bilbo) went on to represent GB on the European Pony Eventing Team in Malmo, Sweden in 2015.

Last year in 2017, Sapphire Smith qualified as an individual for the PC National Eventing Championships at Intermediate Level. Earlier in the week she was a member of our winning PC Intermediate SJ team.

We have some super promising pony/horse/rider combinations in our branch and it will be great to see how these combinations develop this year. I am hopeful that we will be able to enter a strong Novice and Intermediate team, plus some individuals, at our Area 9 Eventing qualifier at Dauntsey on 21 July this year.

If you would like to be considered for selection for this year’s teams, the requirements are as follows:

  • Rider/horse/pony needs to have attended a minimum of 3 eventing rallies from 1 January 2018.
  • Need to be competing and producing consistently good results at the level they wish to compete at the Area Qualifier, namely: BE90/100 or Novice level (equivalent to PC Novice/Intermediate/Open Level respectively). Unaffiliated competitions of an equivalent level are acceptable.
  • Keep me informed of all results/any lameness issues etc

We have great fun at our eventing rallies and there is a real sense of camaraderie amongst the members. We are running regular eventing rallies, from now, until the Area qualifier,  including more XC specific rallies, so please do contact me, Marie Ryan 07887 512887 and come along to some sessions!

In addition, please find as follows, details regarding the Pony Club Talent Pathway 2018.

This is a wonderful programme designed to recognise and support upcoming riders within the Pony Club.

Pony Club Talent Pathway

The Pony Club Talent Pathway is the successor to the Rider Development Pathway (RDP).  Supported by Aberystwyth University, the scheme aids the development of Pony Club Members who show ability to progress in their chosen discipline of Show Jumping, Dressage or Eventing.

By widening the minimum entry criteria previously used for the Rider Development Pathway more Pony Club Members have been able to take part and benefit from the coaching on offer.

The programme will work as follows:

Training Days will be run in Areas from late January through to March around the UK, where Members will benefit from great coaching opportunities.  You do not have to attend a training day to attend a selection day.

Regional Selection Days offer further training opportunities with some of the UK’s best known coaches will be held during late March/April. We have taken feedback on board from the 2017 Talent Pathway and will be holding Eventing specific Selection Days for our 2018 Talent Pathway, in addition to general selection days covering dressage and show jumping.  Please note that at the Northern Ireland and Scottish venues all three categories will be covered at the selection day. To be able to attend a Selection day members must meet the following criteria:
•Aged 14 years or over- members can apply if they are 13 on 1st January but must be 14 by their desired Selection Day
•Training for or competing at Pony Club Novice Dressage level/capable of jumping 90cm

Riders take part in two training sessions at these events, with flat and/or jumping coaches as appropriate, and will receive feedback to help their future development.  From the Selection Days riders will be selected for a weekend-long National Camp.

Riders selected from Selection Days will be invited to attend the Pony Club Talent Pathway Camp being held at Solihull Riding Club from Friday 29th June 2018 until Sunday 1st July 2018.  They will work with top class sport-specific coaches, as well as benefit from other mounted and dismounted sessions.

A squad of six people will be selected from those attending camp. Squad members will benefit from support from an experienced mentor who will continue to develop their progression and training within their discipline, plus a training bursary and other opportunities.
