Pony Club Tetrathlon is very much like Modern Pentathlon, which you may have seen in the Olympics. It provides Members with a challenging competition requiring practical horsemanship, general athletic ability and a steady hand for shooting.<\/p>\n

What are Tetrathlons, Triathlons and Biathlons?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Firstly, you don\u2019t have to be a brilliant athlete to start \u2013 just willing to have a go. Tetrathlon has 4 disciplines \u2013 shooting, swimming, running and riding.\u00a0 During the winter there are triathlons (without the riding). For the under 8\u2019s , we have a running & swimming biathlon . Some events offer bean bag throwing for the biathletes too.<\/p>\n

Swimming<\/h3>\n

Competitors will score points according to how far they have swum in a certain time:
\n4 Minutes – Open Boys:\u00a0 25yrs & Under
\n3 Minutes – Open Girls: \u00a025 yrs & under
\n3 Minutes – All Intermediate and Junior Competitors: \u00a014 yrs & under
\n2 Minutes – Minimus:\u00a0 11yrs & under, Minis:9 yrs & under &\u00a0 Biathletes: 8 yrs & under<\/p>\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/section>\r\n\n\n\r\n

Running<\/h3>\n

Runners go off at one minute intervals or in a group,\u00a0 over a measured course & each competitor\u2019s time is collected. \u00a01000 points are gained for the target time, which is set for the course. Points are awarded or deducted\u00a0 for each second under \u00a0or over that time.<\/p>\n

Distances:
\n10mins 30sec – Open Boys – 3000m
\n07mins 00sec – Boys Intermediate – 2000m
\n05mins 20sec – Open\u00a0 Girls and Intermediate -1500m
\n05mins 40sec –\u00a0 Juniors – 1500m
\n04mins 00sec – Minimus, Mini & Biathlon – 1000m<\/p>\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/section>\r\n\n\n\r\n

Shooting<\/h3>\n

Uses\u00a0 a single shot 4.5mm , .177 caliber air pistol and Pony Club Targets. Competitors each have 5 shots fired consecutively with a time limit of 4 seconds per shot at each target. There is a maximum of 2 targets per competition.
\nTargets are checked & marked as follows:
\n10 marks for a Bull
\n08 marks for a Inner
\n06 marks for a Magpie
\n04 Marks for a Outer
\n02 Marks for outside the outer circle<\/p>\n

A maximum score is worth 1,000 points which is total points scored by a competitor multiplied by 10.<\/p>\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/section>\r\n\n\n\r\n

Cross Country Riding<\/h3>\n

The riding phase usually takes place over fixed cross country fences however, arena jumping can be used as a substitute
\nWhere possible Tetrathlon courses always include a gate to open & close whilst mounted, and a slip rail at which the competitor dismounts, takes down the rail, leads his pony or horse through, replaces the rail and remounts.<\/p>\n
