Do\u2019s and Don\u2019ts for those who are new to hunting and reminders for the rest\u2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

Dress<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– wear a tweed coat with pony club badge and a coloured stock or with a shirt and tie (black\/navy coats with white stocks should only be worn if you are 16yrs or more but even then are optional)<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– cream or light brown brown jodphurs<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– jodphur boots (and chaps to give extra protection to legs if you like) \u2013 long boots are incorrect for those under 16 yrs)<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– hat \u2013 skull cap with black silk<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– body-protectors \u2013 not compulsory \u2013 just advisable, worn outside or inside the coat<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– hairnets should be worn if the hair is longer than a \u2018crop\u2019<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– no jewellery<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– no bright colours for numnahs, leg bandages, etc.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– wear warm gloves<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

Do<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– take something to eat<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– dress for the weather<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– pay your Cap to the Secretary as soon as you arrive<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– make yourself useful by jumping off to do gates for adults \u2013 they will remember you and be extremely grateful for this<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– watch and listen to hounds<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– when asked to \u2018keep to the headland\u2019 ride tight to the hedge to avoid damaging crops\/seeds<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– pass back \u2018Gate Please\u2019 \u2013 everyone should say it to be sure the message reaches the last person through<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– always turn your pony\u2019s head towards hounds; kicking a hound is an awful thing to do<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– put a red ribbon on the tail of ponies that kick and keep them away from others, preferably at the back<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– say \u2018Goodnight\u2019 and \u2018Thank You\u2019 to the master before you go home<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– walk downhill when the ground is very wet to avoid un-necessary damage<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– ride quietly near cattle and through stock yards<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– stop if the Field Master says \u2018Hold Hard\u2019<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

Don\u2019t<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– be late for the meet \u2013 if the meet is at 11 try and get there at 10.50<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– block or obstruct roads when parking; remember tractors and other wide vehicles might need to pass during the day<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– obstruct gates, private or field, or damage mown verges when parking<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– ride ahead of the Field Master<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– use your mobile phone within earshot of others<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– chatter loudly<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– panic if things go wrong \u2013 someone will always help<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– ride too close behind other horses \u2013 it is inviting trouble<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– leave the person closing a gate on their own \u2013 wait until they have remounted before riding on<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– ignore someone riding in front of you with an arm behind their back \u2013 it means \u2018give my horse some space, it might kick\u2019<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

– queue jump at fences \u2013 wait your turn<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

– ride past a hound relieving itself on the road<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n
