Mounted Rallies
A riding jacket or branch sweatshirt should be worn with either a plain shirt and PC tie or a branch polo shirt. Under the rules no bare shoulders are permitted, in hot weather jackets and jumpers may be removed. Jodhpurs or breeches must be plain beige/cream, navy or black and half chaps if worn should be brown or black. Boots should be leather or rubber with smooth soles and a small heel. All clothing should be clean and tidy. Gloves should also be worn.
Unmounted Rallies
Branch sweatshirts and practical trousers such as jodhpurs or straight-legged jeans should be worn. Footwear should be sturdy – trainers are not suitable at any rally where members will be handling horses/ponies.
Turnout of Pony and Tack
Ponies must be clean and well groomed, hooves should be well tended and picked out. The Pony Club do not expect parents/guardians to buy new tack frequently but it must be safe and fit for purpose. Tack must be clean, well fitting and in good condition. Plain tack and plain, dark or white numnahs and boots are preferred at rallies and compulsory at competitions. Your instructor will check your tack and advise you.
Badges
An official PC badge should be worn at all branch activities. It should be worn on the left lapel of a jacket, or left chest of a sweatshirt, with a coloured felt showing the highest test standard achieved. Cloth achievement badges should be sewn onto the sleeves of the branch sweatshirt.
Hats
Hats must be worn at all times when mounted or handling horses/ponies, with the chinstrap fastened, and must conform to the latest PC standards. All hats must be checked by a committee member and then tagged to evidence they are of the correct standard.
Jewellery
For safety reasons NO JEWELLERY may be worn other than a wrist watch, a plain stock pin worn horizontally or a tie clip. No ear studs.
Medical Armbands are recommended where a parent/guardian is not immediately to hand, i.e. out on a cross country course. This is especially important if the rider has any known allergies. The Pony Club insurers also recommended they are worn when the rider hacks out without the parent/guardian.
Body Protectors
Body protectors are compulsory for all cross-country and pony racing rallies and competitions, and it is recommended that they are worn for jumping activities. It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure that the body protector fits correctly. All body protectors worn, must conform to the latest PC standards.
