Camp is probably the most popular part of the UPPC year. We hold it at Berriewood Farm, near Shrewsbury where there are three surfaced arenas (including one indoors), several grass arenas, showjumps on grass and a surface, and lots of assorted sizes of cross country fences.
Main Camp (for 10 yrs and above) runs from Monday to Friday, Junior Camp (7 – 10 yrs)from Wednesday to Friday, and Mini Camp (under 8 yrs) is one day only on the Wednesday. If we have enough interest, we also have a two or three day Senior Camp from Monday to Tuesday or Wednesday. We do ask for volunteers from parents of members in Camp to come in and help us each day.
Members live in at Main Camp, sleeping in tents, lorries or caravans. Junior Camp members may sleep in if a parent accompanies them. We are very lucky at Berriewood who have excellent facilities including a shower. A kind parent deals with providing and organising meals. Ponies are stabled unless there is a welfare reason not to, but if that is the case there are small individual paddocks we can arrange to use.
There is some tuition in riding and pony care every day. On Wednesday afternoon we all go out to do something “non-horsey”. We have in the past been canoeing, swimming and to an Escape Room at Shrewsbury Prison! We have a barbecue to which parents and families are invited, and on Friday we invite parents to come and watch demonstrations by each ride before Prize Giving and home.
