{"id":1137,"date":"2024-03-03T11:04:29","date_gmt":"2024-03-03T11:04:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/branches.pcuk.org\/woodland\/?page_id=1137"},"modified":"2026-01-07T11:38:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T11:38:15","slug":"woodland-hunt-teams","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/branches.pcuk.org\/woodland\/woodland-hunt-teams\/","title":{"rendered":"Woodland Hunt Teams"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n\r\n<section class=\"full-width-text py-5\">\r\n    <div class=\"container\">\r\n        <div class=\"row\">\r\n            <div class=\"col-lg-10 mx-auto\">\r\n                <h3><b>Woodland Hunt Pony Club (WHPC) \u2013 Teams Information, Selection Policies and MERs (Minimum Eligibility Requirements)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">WHPC aims to enter teams and individuals in as many competitions, at all levels, as possible throughout the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To be considered for selection, riders must:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Be active members of WHPC<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Be regularly competing at the height\/level they wish to be considered for<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meet both Pony Club rules and WHPC MERs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Membership &amp; Eligibility<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All competitors must be members of WHPC both at:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The closing date for entries, and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The date of the competition<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The District Commissioner (DC) must sign off and certify the eligibility of the horse and rider<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Any breach may result in disqualification<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is to ensure combinations are safe, competent, and comfortable at the level applied for<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There may be occasions where the DC has the right to override the minimum MERs where it is deemed necessary and\/or appropriate.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Teams &amp; Selection<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">WHPC may enter:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Teams<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Individuals<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A combination of both<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Teams consist of 3 or 4 members, depending on the event and discipline<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We will always field the strongest team(s) available<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Qualifier competitions:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Teams of 4 will always be submitted where possible<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Non-qualifier competitions:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Teams of 3 or 4 may be submitted<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Volunteering Requirement<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Any member wishing to be considered for a team must provide a volunteer for team competitions<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Competition Results<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Results must be verifiable<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Acceptable sources include:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Horse Events<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pony Club<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NSEA<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cotswold Cup<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">British Eventing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">British Showjumping<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">British Dressage<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Or similar recognised organisations<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Competition Dates<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Those applying for consideration must be available for the relevant Championship date for their respective discipline, considering possible overnight stays.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If a member is keen to compete at an Area\/Regional competition but is not available for the Championship, we may be able to, number of team entrants permitting, enter them as an Individual. If this is the case, you must make us aware at the outset of your application.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Finance<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Once a member has been selected for a Team or as an Individual, the place is only confirmed on receipt of the entry fee.\u00a0This will be facilitated via the usual bookings system of the organisers choice.\u00a0 No entry fees can be refunded without a vet or doctors certificate and there is usually a cut off date for this.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If the Team\/Individual qualifies for Championships, the club will pay the Championship entry fee provided the member has fulfilled the expected volunteering requirements in Branch and at Area competitions.\u00a0 Any additional costs, stabling, transport, accommodation etc. are to be covered by the member.\u00a0 However, in the instance that a member cannot attend the Championship after the closing date for entries we will expect the entry fee to be paid back to the club.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">WHPC will provide a Team Trainer for any Area\/Regional Events where we have a full team competing.\u00a0 If this is the case, it is compulsory for all selected Team members to take part in the course walk with the trainer.\u00a0 You may take your own trainer in addition to the selected Woodland Team Trainer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We will not provide a Team Trainer for events where we are sending Individuals or for a Composite Team.\u00a0 If this is the case, members are either responsible for making their own arrangements using a suitable trainer or request to the DC to co-ordinate with another Area 12 Pony Club that is attending for the member(s) to utilise their trainer and pay an equal share of the trainer costs whatever that may be. It is not compulsory to take a Trainer with you to an event.\u00a0Individuals\/Composite Teams are welcome to contact the DC to discuss Trainer requirements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The DC will attend Area\/Regional events if able to do so.\u00a0 Should this not be possible, a Team Manager will be appointed for the day (who is not the Team Trainer or a Parent) as a requirement of entry and the Area Rep notified. Competing members will be advised of this and all queries on the day should be directed through this representative.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If a member is unable to put themselves forward for selection due to the financial constraints, they are encouraged to discuss their position (in strict confidence) with the DC and Treasurer to see if WHPC could subsidise some of the costs.\u00a0.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Fitness<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Horse and Rider fitness is crucial not only to the success of the competitor but also the safety and wellbeing of the Horse and Rider. Riders must notify the DC, Team Trainer or Team Manager of any change in their own health or fitness status, and\/or that of their horse\/pony or veterinary\/medical management immediately, where such a change could impact performance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your horse will need \u2018down\u2019 days both prior to and after competitions to prepare\/recover. It is not only the physical but the mental toll on your horse that needs to be taken into consideration when completing MER\u2019s and qualifiers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Vaccinations<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ponies must be vaccinated, and verified by branch, in accordance with the latest PC requirements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Training<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Appropriate discipline training sessions will be provided which you must attend as frequently as possible.\u00a0Dressage and show jumping sessions for example will be applicable to those doing either the pure discipline or Eventing. The more you do, the better the team dynamics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Team Spirit\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">WHPC expects Riders and their supporters to have a good attitude and participate in all the required activities within the branch, both ridden and helping.\u00a0\u00a0We ask that members and parents\/guardians\u00a0 have read and understood the Pony Club Code of Conduct <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/resources.pcuk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/updated-code-of-conduct-for-members-final-version-13092022.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/resources.pcuk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/updated-code-of-conduct-for-members-final-version-13092022.pdf<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Types of MERs Required<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There are two types of MERs:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ridden rallies on the specific rider\/pony combination<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Completed competitions\/rounds for the discipline being entered<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Both must be met.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Final Thoughts from the DC<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We hope these notes help you feel confident, prepared and
