South Hereford and Ross Harriers took first place at an Intermediate Team Show Jumping competition. Alice Garfield, riding Niacra II, clinched the title with an excellent last round, while Sapphire Smith, aboard Utah’s Perlie, also completed a clear double round. The team was completed by Rhona King and Jessica Morris. “We managed to finish the first round on a score of four faults leaving us in the lead,” said trainer Hollie Cartwright. “The second round was then in reverse order of merit so we had a long wait being last to jump. “The girls all coped well with the pressure knowing we didn’t have that many fences in hand over the other teams. “Once the first three members had been, our fate was in the hands of Alice who couldn’t afford to have a fence down. “Alice kept her cool giving us that all important clear for the win. “Between the two rounds it was truly a team effort where everyone played an important part.”

So what a summer, our SH & RH pc now hold the title of the National Intermediate SJ competition.
The team consisted of myself, Sapphire Smith, Alice Garfield & Jess Morris where we achieved our first success winning the qualifiers at Longcot, Oxfordshire.
The qualifiers proved to be challenging where after 3 competitive rounds we won due to being the only team finishing on a score of 4. Every team members round counted towards our win (my horse, Bart was on top form).
Next, for the champs Martin kindly drove Jess and I up to Cheshire in style in a huge lorry. The day of the nationals came with anticipation and excitement for the team where we competed against 19 other qualified teams from throughout the UK. Having had rain for the past few days the ground was tough but with ambition and determination after the first round we took the lead. The course proved to be problematic and technical but despite this our team put the pressure on the second round to keep the winning position, and we took home the gold.
Once again all team members rounds were used, creating a worthy win. We were very grateful for the support given at the champ and would like to express our thanks to the trainers of our team members.

I would also like to thank Dido and Martin for their encouragement and support throughout the competition season.
