TESTS & BADGES

As an organisation, we strongly encourage every Pony Club member to work towards their Pony Club Tests. This structured pathway allows members to progressively learn and develop skills in both riding and horse care. Each test, taken at recommended ages, is designed with specific objectives in mind. Upon passing each test, you will be awarded a coloured felt to wear behind your Pony Club badge.

Recommended ages:

  • E Test – Minimum age 4 years
  • D Test – Minimum age 8 years
  • D+ Test – Minimum age 10 years
  • C Test – Minimum age 11 years
  • C+ Test – Minimum age 13 years
  • B Test – Minimum age 14/15 years

To help you on the way to your Tests there is an Achievement Badge pathway.  You will see Badge rallies advertised on the rally pages of the website:

Eligibility to wear spurs

Since 1st January 2025 if you need to wear spurs for any Pony Club activity, you must have achieved either the C+ Test or the Pony Club spurs test. There is no minimum age to take the spurs test but members should be able to understand the potential welfare implication of any misuse of spurs.

You can find information, FAQs, training resources and the spurs test syllabus in the Resources Hub.

Get in touch to find out about the next Spurs Test dates (run by Area 9) or C+ Test dates.
