Tetrathlon is a team and individual competition comprised of Shooting, Swimming, Running and Riding. It is a variant of, and major recruiting ground for the Olympic sport Modern Pentathlon. Competition levels progress with age. The Shoot involves shooting with air pistols at targets between 7 and 10 metres, the Swim is the distance swum in 2 to 4 minutes, the Run is normally cross country over a distance of between 1000m and 3000m, and the Ride is over a cross country course, the most exhilarating phase for many.
Classes are arranged as follows:
• Open (25 and Under)
• Intermediate (25 and Under)
• Junior (14 and Under)
• Minimus (11 and Under)
• Tadpoles (9 and Under)
• Beanies (7 and Under)
Please also note that from 1st January 2025, it will be a requirement at all Tetrathlon Shooting (training and competition) for there to be a qualified Range Conducting Officer, or YPS Tutor present to ensure the safety of the range

SW (Area 15/16) Team Selection Guidance
● All the following are guidelines used by the selectors and committee to assist with selection.
● As with any guidelines there will always be exceptions but the committee will make these decisions on a year by year and case by case basis.
● Guidelines will be followed whenever possible
● These are area 15/16 guidelines and may differ from other areas who may be dealing with different demographics
Triathlon Team Selection (week before Tri Champs)
Results from Winter Triathlon taken to make teams. Winter League and Tri qualifiers are looked at.
Windsor Selection (selection by 1st March)
RULE: Must be Mixed Sex Team of 3, 1 boy & 2 girls or 2 boys & 1 girl,
RULE: Can only compete once at Windsor
Selection from Area 15 & 16, can be either or both, with a mixture being preference.
Priority given to Last Year Juniors
Competing over the years at tetrathlon.
Combination with good SJ Records at 90cm. Riding is Key.
Written Application.
Horses to be loaned to Irish if required.
Junior Regionals (selection by 1st May bank holiday weekend)
Junior Aged 12-14yrs (15yrs if 15yr old class) 1st Jan
Combination:
Competing Regularly at XC at 90cm
Clear/Good ride previous Area/Nationals results at 90cm
Clear/Good ride results at recent XC events at 90cm
Must Compete at XC prior to selection to attend regionals that year.
Kit only available for Junior aged to keep, 15yr class to borrow and return.
Senior Regionals (Selection June)
Senior Aged 15yrs upwards 1st Jan
Combination:
Competing Regularly at XC at 100cm
Clear/Good ride previous Area/Nationals results at 100cm
Clear/Good ride results at recent XC events at 100cm
Must Compete at XC prior to selection to attend regionals that year.
Stepping Stones (Kit to be borrowed & returned)
Combination of the following:
Priority given to Last year mini’s.
Clear/Good 80cm XC ride results.
Competed at Inter Area or Area.
Competing at Branch Tetrathlons.
Selection after Area Tetrathlon competition.
Competed at Triathlons if not Tetrathlons.
Due to this being a team event the above may need to be adjusted to get teams.
The best team will be selected inside the above criteria.
