East England Grassroots Regional Championships – September 2023

Amelia P and Boris headed to Norfolk to represent us in the Showjumping at the regional championships in the 70 and 80cm classes respectively.
Amelia jumped 3 beautiful clear rounds to finish in 16th place out of 117 starters.
Boris also jumped well, with just an unlucky 4 faults in each round.
Well done to you both, a great achievement.

Hickstead – August 2023

Well done to all our competitors who braved the weather on the 5th August. It was the first year they opened this competition up to include the lower classes from 40cm, which enabled our youngest members to experience riding at Hickstead.

40cm Assisted Class – Wilf jumped a lovely Clear round to join the other clears as Joint winners, well done Wilf.
50cm – We had a fabulous Clear from Carolina to finish 23rd and Charlie riding his young pony, just tipped one pole for 4 faults.
60cm – A competitive clear for Charlotte L to finish 11th and a great clear from Beth who is now taking on her sisters pony, to take 33rd place out of 60 starters.
70cm – AV Emeralds – Sandy, Jacob, Beatrice and Amelia P all jumped lovely clear rounds, to finish a creditable 7th out of 27 teams.
The AV Stars – Lilly, Millie, Izzy W and Isla D finished on a team score of 8, with some great rounds, including a clear from Mille. They finished in 17th place.
The AV Diamonds – Charlotte L, Amelia R and Tilly J, also finished on a team score of 8, again all with lovely rounds and a clear form Charlotte.
Charlie was a last minute entry, so competed as an individual, but jumped a lovely clear.
80cm – AV Rubies – Sandy, Poppy, Boris and Freya all jumped great rounds to finish on a team score of 4 faults, for a fabulous 4th place.
AV Sapphire – Harriet, Freya and Boris had a few unlucky poles between them, to finish a creditable 15th out of 27 teams.
Freya’s fast clear round near the beginning of the competition, was so close to taking the individual win, but she was just piped at the post, for an amazing 2nd place, out of 107 competitors!

90cm –Our relatively young team of Boris, Freya and Ruby all jumped well, but picked up a few faults on route to finish outside the placings in a fiercely fought competition.

1m –The final team to jump was Evie, Jess HH and Jess P, who even saw a break in the rain. They jumped well for a team 7th, with Evie’s clear picking up an Individual 9th too.

Well done to each and everyone of you. The Weather was truely torrential, you were all amazing and a credit to the branch.

Area ShowjumpingJuly 2023

It was a very long weekend at Felbridge for the Area Showjumping.

Saturday saw the introduction of the 70cm Qualifier, where we fielded 2 teams.

The AV Emeralds – Amelia, Charlie and Jacob all jumped lovely double clears, but picked up a few time faults along the way, but finished in a creditable 11th place.

The AV Stars – Isla D, Millie, Izzy and Grace W had mixed fortunes, but rode beautifully to finish in team 15th.

Amelia and Isla both made it through to the jump off as individuals. Amelia, kept a clean sheet, with a quick clear, finishing in 8th place, while Isla had a unlucky pole down.

Both qualified for the Regional Championships in Norfolk at the end of September.

Also on the Saturday was the 80cm qualifier.

The AV Rubies – Boris, Jess L, Maisie P and Freya had a few unlucky poles between them and were again caught out by the new tighter time limit, but finished in a respectable 13th place.                                        The AV Sapphires – Boris, Harriet P and Freya were down to a team of 3, so unable to drop a score, and  finished further down the order.

Boris made it through to the individual jump off and after jumping another clear, he finished in a fabulous 5ht place, to qualify for the Regional championships.

The Sunday was the turn of the 90, 1m and 1.10m classes.

Our 90cm Team of Ruby, Sophie S, Holly Killick and Daisy P jumped some lovely clears to finish in 9th place.

In the 1m class, our team of Jess P, Evie and Jess HH finished a brilliant 7th with some lovely riding and some great clear rounds.

Laura B was our sole representative in the 1.10 class, and joined members from Mid Surrey and East Sussex to form a Mixed Area team, who came a very creditable 5th.

Individually Ruby (90) finished in 6th place, while Jess HH (1m) also came 6th and Evie (1m) finished 10th. They all just missed out on qualifying for the National Championships in August.

Well done to all our members, it was lovely to have so many members represent us at area level.

Romney Marsh Inter- Branch Showjumping at Duckhurst Farm – 23rd April 2023

Ashford Valley had some great results at the Individual Showjumping at Duckhurst today, to brighten up a very wet day! Starting with one of our youngest members, Ivy and the lovely Timmy, who jumped a fantastic clear round to finish 8th in the first cross pole class, well done Ivy! Thomas then followed with a 9th in the second cross pole class and brilliant clear to finish 7th in the 40cm class with his relatively new pony Faith.

In the 70cm Class there were clears from Tilly and Jacob who finished 8th and 9th respectively. They then paired up, and again both jumped clear to finish 8th in a competitive 70cm pairs class.

Jacob, Freya and Poppy were our representatives in the 80cm class. Jacob had just one down, to finish a nice round on 4 faults, while Freya and Poppy both jumped beautiful clear rounds at speed to finish 3rd and 6th respectively in a very fast class. Well done girls, you both rode brilliantly.

Poppy was then first to go in the 90cm, and certainly set off as if she meant business. Jumping a lovely clear and fast round, only one could catch her. A well deserved 2nd place.

Well done to everyone and we hope you have dried out!

Area 11 First Round and Area Finals for The Barrier Animal Health Spring Festival and Windsor qualifiers

AVPC was very privileged to be asked to run the Area Finals and qualifiers on 4th February at Duckhurst Farm Equestrian Centre.  Having spend many cold evenings at Duckhurst for rallies we were blessed with sunny weather and although not tropical the sun was out. Congratulations to everyone who qualified.

Crawley and Horsham Inter Branch Showjumping Competition – 25th October 2022

In the 70cm class, AVPC Vixen’s, consisting of Beatrice, Annabel J and Millie, managed to get outstanding clears rounds, which meant they topped the table and won their class! A huge achievement for our Pony Club, especially for first time rosette winner Beatrice, who is already showing what a huge asset she is to any team! Millie also got placed 7th in the individual competition too.

The 80 class had a very technical and challenging course and although there was excellent riding by team consisting of Poppy, Harley and Freya, it wasn’t their day and they got team 8th. Unfortunately, in the individuals, Millie accidentally retired after they rung a bell that she thought was elimination!

In the 90s, we sadly didn’t have a team though Poppy completed her round with a mere four faults. We’re incredibly lucky to have so many riders competing for Ashford Valley.

Tickham Pony Club Showjumping at Duckhurst Farm – 22nd October 2022

In the Showjumping competition run by Tickham Pony Club at Duckhurst on the 22nd of October, our Pony Club really shone. It was an amazing day out with so many competitors riding for Ashford Valley.

In the bottom hole class there was a fantastic win for Wilf MacLean, expertly led by me, as well as a lovely clear by Carolina.

In the 60 cm class, there was some outstanding riding by Lily, Izzy, Jacob and Beatrice who managed to place their team fourth.

In the 70cm showjumping – there was an astonishing clear round by Amelia which placed her 5th closely followed by a bewilderingly speedy round by Izzy who came a brilliant 3rd in the whole class. A team 5th was obtained by the Ashford Valley Valkyries, who consisted of Isla, Izzy, Beatrice and Millie.
In the 80cm there was some exceptional riding there was some unlucky poles down for Harriet, Amelia and Poppy. However Poppy got placed in the 90 and qualified for the Spring Festival 2nd round. Congratulations!

Cobham and Wimbledon Individual and Team Show Jumping – September 2022

Well done to Isabelle, Millie and Lilly who travelled the distance to Cobham and Wimbledon PC showjumping competition at Merrist Wood. Well done to Lilly Jones on Lily who came 5th out of 36 in the 50-60.  Sadly the 70 and 80cms wasn’t the results we would hope for with a couple of faults and eliminations but well done for traveling over there are representing us.

Hickstead showjumping – August 2022

Huge congratulations to everyone who attended the interbranch teams and individual sj at Hickstead on Saturday 6th Aug. There were lots of children from all over the South East and the competition was tough. Most of our ponies were tired from being at camp the previous 2 weeks but they still tried their hearts out for us.

Well done to Sandy Hourigan on Million Dollar Girl coming 7th overall and Millie McClean on Moelayn Princess who came 35th in our 70 class.

The 80 class also had a huge amount of entries but Matilda Randolph on Bobby finished 11th on the leader board and Poppy Radford on Bally Bay Hero came 75th.

In our 90, Molly Thompson came 10th on Findon Euphoria and Jess Upton on Priestwood Special Edition was 11th.
We also made our mark on the metre class with Jessica Horsey Hord coming 25th on Shanbally Show Tan.

Well done to everyone who competed and thank you to everyone who helped our teams do so well.

Area Show Jumping – 2022

Area SJ was held at Felbridge on 2nd July.  It is a busy competition with each class consisting of at least 2 rounds in completely different arenas, so 2 courses to walk and learn and then 2 lots of warm up.  Thanks to all our members and their parents who made the trip to Felbridge, you all rode very competitively and looked immaculate. We are very proud of you all.

In the 1M class we had 3 individuals,  both Evie and Jess were clear in their second rounds and Hope had an educational ride on her new young horse.

In the massive 90 class with 75 competitors our team of George, Jess U, Jess HH and Poppy unfortunately all had a few poles, it was not our day this year.

George, Jess U, Jess HH and Poppy[/caption]

Similarly the 80cms class had nearly 100 competitors it it!  Congratulations to Matilda who was 16th and qualified for Champs, Harriet was clear in the first round, Hollie had a lovely flowing round on her young horse and sadly Boris was going beautifully but had a stumble on his handbrake turn resulting in elimination.

Romney Marsh Show Jumping at Golden Cross -12th April 2022

Well done to Izzy who won the 60cm at the Easter jumping at Romney marsh today, Millie got 8th, and they came 4th in the pairs with an unlucky 4 faults.

They look very cool on their almost matching ponies too!

Wilf came 10th in the 40cm- the only one placed who was on the lead rein- so obviously some excellent running by Millie!!

East Kent Hunt BAH Area 11 SJ qualifier at Hadlow – 27th March 2022

Well done to our Ashford Valley members, who competed at the East Kent Hunt BAH Area 11 SJ qualifier.

Brilliant performances from Boris Beier, who came 6th on Toffee Apple in the 70cm open qualifier and took 3rd place in the open 60cm section on Woodhaven Songbird.

In the 80cm open, Harley Byrant came 12th on Freckles, Boris Beier came 14th on Toffee Apple and Charlie Collings came 17th on Three Chimneys Etoile.

In the challenge qualifier and open 90cm, Charlie Collings came 8th on Three Chimneys Etoile  and Harley Bryant came 10th on Freckles.

Well done team AVPC. It is great to see you out and about.”

Great picture of Toffee Apple and Boris in action!

Regional Showjumping Championships at HorseHeath – August 2021

Well done to Boris and Toffee who were clear in both their rounds at HorseHeath.  They were disappointed to be not be quite quick enough but we were impressed they kept all the poles in the cups!

Hickstead Teams 2021

Wow its a long time since we had a show jumping report.  Teams jumping at Hickstead is one of those marmite shows, you either love it or hate it.  For many children its their one opportunity to get that coveted photo jumping the Hickstead planks but its generally an early start and a long day.  We were very pleased to have 5 teams competing this year:

70 cms team – Boyd , James, and Lilly all had their first experience of Hickstead but sadly we missed poor Millie whose horse was lame and are very grateful for Sandy standing in at the last minute and getting a great clear round.

80cms Team – Brilliant riding from our young 80cms team of Maisie, Molly (clear), Matilda (clear) and Harley (4) for an amazing team 6th place.  So proud of you all!

80cms Team – Florence, George (Clear), Boris and Sophie, all made it successfully around the course, but tipped a couple of.

80cms team – We were thrilled that Daisy 1st INDIVIDUAL,  Georgie Estall 4TH INDIVIDUAL and Lauren (8) WERE THE WINNING TEAM AND DID A VICTORY LAP WITH THEIR WINNING RUGS

90cms team – Josie Boxall, Isabella, Holly Killick (Clear round) were not placed this time but we were so pleased to see you all competing.

Area Showjumping 2021

A long day at Felbridge but some very happy children. Well done to Boris and George who qualified for the regional championships and to Jess who rode well under pressure to keep her qualification from 2019 on a different horse to qualify for the 2021 National Champs.

**PHOTO TO ADD***

A special mention to smiling Holly who stepped up to make up the team at 90cms and jumped every single jump in her three rounds clear to be 12th out of 130!

Our show jumpers were on top form today.

Sophie B (Debut), Megan (Debut) and Jess HH have all qualified for the 2nd round of the Winter League. Huge congratulations.

And our team of Megan, Jess, Hope and Red were 2nd in the 85/90cm with a WIN for Hope, Jess 4th and Megan 5th. Amazing, well done everyone.

Eaglesfield SJ with WKM PC – 13th October 2018

Whoops! its was one of those days were not everything went to plan, an error with the timings meant that Charles and Jessica did not have the best start to the day and did not make it around the course.  Boris’s pony was also less attentive than usual resulting in an uncharacteristic run out. Thanks to mums Laura and Kate for supporting the children, whilst Charles’s mum was elsewhere with other ponies and children, hope next time will be a bit less stressful!

More positively our new member Jessica Hursey jumped a nice double clear in the 80cm qualifier and came 6th, well done.  Hope and Daisy also both did well in the 90cms winter league qualifier too with a 7th and 8th place respectively.  Congratulations girls and thanks everyone for representing us.

The Old Surry Pony Club Showjumping – 9th September 2019

Thanks to The Old Surrey & Burstow Pony Club for a well organised friendly show jumping competition at Felbridge. Congratulations to everyone as we had someone placed in nearly every class! Boyd was 3rd in the 40/45cms, Harley 6th in the 50/55cms, Matilda 5th in the 60/65cms, Boris 6th in 75/80, Hope 3rd in the 80/85cms, and Aidan 3rd and Jess 8th in the 1M. A confident start for all to the winter show jumping season.

Southdown Hunt Pony Club Interbranch Showjumping – 3rd August 2019

A long day at Southdown Hunt West Pony Club Interbranch Teams Show Jumping competition at Hickstead.  We had three teams, 1M, 90 and 80cms team all course walking at 8.30 and our Team Manager off to team brief at 7.30am.  At least we were early enough to avoid any traffic on the M25!

When we arrived friends from Romney Marsh PC had a lame pony in their 1M team so one of their remaining competitors joined our team as we only had 3 AVHPC members.   Sean from RMPC went first and was clear setting the standard.  We were the last competitors to go; Seb led the way and after a disagreement with Ted at the first was clear over everything else, Aidan then went around at his usual speedy pace clear and fast, our last to go was Jess and although she has feeling dreadful her lovely horse Murphy, who had won the Hickstead Derby in his youth, stormed round clear giving them individual 3rd place and the team 6th.  Well done.

Seb, Aidan, Sean and Jess

Our other teams had a few poles between them sadly meaning there were not in the rosettes this time

90cms – Daisy (clear), Toby (4 faults) and Elizabeth (4 faults)

0cms – Chloe (clear), Hope (4 faults), and Millie (4 faults)

80cms – Katie (clear), IsabellaS (12), IsabellaR(4 faults)  and George (E – although that E does not really show the brilliant riding on the first half of the course, well done George for stepping up to this level for the day)

Well done to everyone, you all rode brilliantly, your ponies looked beautifully turned out and your behaviour was impeccable.  We are very proud of all our riders.  Thanks to Keely and Charlie for coming to support us all and helping with the course walks and warming everyone up too.

At lunchtime we were allowed in the international arena for the 90th birthday celebrations, can you spot us here…

20/7/19

We just had two teams competing this  year at Area Show Jumping.  Our 1M team of Seb, Amy, Laura and Jess had to be at Golden Cross at 7.30am ready for the first class!

A very tough course with a couple of combinations causing most of the problems with poles hitting the ground a little too frequently, however we managed enough poles up over the 3 rounds to come 4TH!!  Our victor was Jess and Murphy who kept poles up in all 3 rounds and won the class for qualification at National Champs.

Our 80cms team really stepped up today, all riding new ponies and competing for the first time as a combination for AVHPC.  Well done to Hope, Sam and Red who all rode confidently and sympathetically, unplaced this year but look forward to seeing you all again next year.

28/4/19

Very strong competition today at Hickstead international.   The classes were big with much waiting time in between, the  courses were inviting and jumped well.
George riding the beautifully turned out Finn represented Ashford Valley and competed  in two classes the 65cm and 75cm, they jumped well over both courses but sadly were not in the ribbons.
Speaking with George after, he confirmed he enjoyed the course and was happy Finn jumped well. Another experience chalked up for this exciting pair.

North West Kent Pony Club Showjumping -10th February 2019

Chloe, Isabella S and Isabella R – 4th team and Chloe 3rd individual.

Thanks to North West Kent Pony Club for a well organised show jumping event run at Eaglesfield Equestrian Centre.   Free photo downloads are available on NWKPC facebook group if you ask to join to get access to them they will approve you.

Well done to all our members who rode so brilliantly, particular congratulations to Red and Fred who qualified for the 80 and 90cms Dengie second rounds respectively on 24th March.

George B had a lovely morning he was in a mixed team who came 4th together and then he had a clear in the 70-75.

Our 70cms team of Chloe, Isabella S and Isabella R (top) were 4th in this class too, with Chloe (below) 3rd individually.

In the 80cms class Isabella S and Isabella R (below) were both clear with Isabella R 6th.
