First Aid Course 25 FEB 2017 _docx

What an amazing summer we have had, culminating in our fabulous dressage teams both finishing on the podium in Third place both at the Grassroots Championship at Eland Lodge and at the National Pony Club Championships at Cholmonely Castle. We even had individual placings too…Will Atkinson storming to a very impressive 5th individual at the Grassroots competition  and Jade Varley a magnificent 2nd at the Champs with Ricki Riley closely behind on 6th.  What an amazing achievement for you and for our club…we are all very proud of you.

She’s gone and done it!! Emily has been selected for the RDP Camp 2016 for dressage. Well done EM, we are all very proud of you.

Fabulous result for Emily Latham Taylor on Sunday at Addington, she came 12th in the Open Dengie Dressage Championships – what an achievement, we are all very proud of you, very well done.  This is what Emily had to say about her weekend at the championships.

I was so pleased with Roo in my test, we made a couple of little mistakes in the movements which I knew would cause us to lose some marks however I couldn’t have asked for more from her! Especially to say we only started working on the new movements after we qualified!
There were lots of very established horses there so we are going to keep working on our lateral movements and hopefully will be in the running for next year when she is more established!! Very exciting indeed. But all in all we had a lovely weekend at Addington and it was an amazing experience!

END OF SUMMER PICNIC

Sam and Will Parkinson have very kindly offered us their garden for an End of Summer Picnic on Sunday 20th September.  Everyone from Blackburn is invited with families along with our friends from Haydock and Rockwood Harriers who came to camp.  It will be a ‘bring food to share’ lazy Sunday afternoon. 2pm till 6pm.  We appreciate people may be competing so just get there when you can.  Please can you text Elaine or Helen if you are interested and how many people you will bring.  Further details will be available in a couple of weeks.

We were very lucky to meet Pip Kirkby at the Area 4 Dressage Competition held at Bold Heath on July 25th.  Pip is the Chief Executive of The Pony Club.  She talked with Elaine, Helen and Tricia and with Ricki, Emma and Louie for quite a while.  We talked about ways in which we can keep pony club attractive to its members, how to attract new members and of course we talked all about our club and how wonderful we are.  Pip watched a few of our novice team complete their tests.  The day was finished off with a bang with the Emily and the Riley sisters all qualifying for the Championships which are being held at Cholmondely Castle – Emma will compete on Friday 21st and Ricki on Saturday 22nd August, unfortunately Emily cannot take up her qualification due to prior commitments  – I am sure they would appreciate some support if anyone fancies a day out at the champs.  Good luck girls!!.  We have loads of pictures from the areas on our face book page

Northcote Stud Young Horse Championships 2015

In June Northcote Stud will be running a 4 day British Show jumping competition with around 300 horses a day. They have been asked if we would like to be involved in the event as arena / presentation parties.  We will get fed and will be covered under their public liability insurance.  The show is 4th to 7th June and volunteers would be assisting the course builder, helping with general show running, car park management and assisting with mounted presentations.  I am sure it will be a very interesting few days and it would be great for the club to have connections to another fantastic venue for our training.  Please don’t feel you have to volunteer to help on all the days although i am sure that would be ok too.  It is also a fantastic opportunity for anyone wanting their Volunteering badge and will look great on your CV too.

Any one interested please speak to Elaine.

Please remember to follow us on Facebook for the latest information

FALLEN RIDER APP

The App enables the user to alert up to five of their friends, family or work colleagues with a map of their exact location when they are in need of assistance. We have seen huge interest from organisations, charities, schools, etc, but after a conversation with a friend of mine whose daughter had an accident on Ashdown Forest where she broke her collarbone and was not found for a few hours I thought I would contact all the Pony Clubs. Had she had Alert5 on her phone she would have been found in minutes.  I have attached a few images that show what the App looks like and an example map that is sent.  The App costs £4.99 per year and is available on both the iPhone and Android phones from the relevant stores.   For further information please visit the website at http://www.alert5.co.uk

CONGRATULATIONS ELAINE

Elaine was officially given her district commissioners badge at head office at Stoneleigh Park this week.

Tests

Any one who is at C+ standard or above, keep watching the Area 4 website for Area wide training and test days. Tell Tricia Grimes is you think you are ready to be tested and she will organise it for you. Don’t forget, you have to attend stable management training to be on the radar to take your tests!

We will be doing in house E, D & D+ training during 2014 and we will get an external examiner in for our C test candidates when we are ready for testing.

There is a pencilled in date of September 6th for an Area wide B test. If that is your next test, you need to attend the area assessment days before you can be tested. Contact Hilary Wakefield from the Area 4 site if you want to pursue these dates.

The national B+ syllabus has been reformatted so that there are clear, numbered criteria for candidates to achieve. Written feedback sheets will be provided for each candidate at the end of test, which will relate to the criteria in the syllabus, so that the candidates know what to work on for next time if they are unsuccessful. The national training committee intend to reformat every test to make the criteria more clear and self explanatory, as well as introducing written feedback sheets for all levels. They have started at B test and will work down through the levels.

The new B+ Test syllabus can be viewed on the national website. Assessor notes sheets and the candidate feedback forms can be downloaded from the national website through parents & officials – forms, guides & handbooks – training & test nomination forms.

There will be area 4 members training for C+ standard on Monday April 14th at Myerscough. Contact Hilary Wakefield to book a place. Her contact details are on the Area 4 website. Please let me know if you book on to any area 4 events. I don’t wish to police you, but can better support you if I know you are attending.

Area 4 B & B+ training will be held on April 15th at Myerscough. This is an assessment day for members, Again Hilary is your contact from the area 4 website.

See the Head Quarters Web Site for any test info from E test up and don’t forget Tricia Grimes is our Branch co ordinator and is there to help you. For tests from B+ up they are developing a Q&A page that should prove beneficial to potential candidates.

The instructor’s resource is also good for senior members and copies can be purchased from the national pony club shop.

Eventing

Julie Gething is taking names of any members who would be interested in Cross Country training during the summer half term (week commencing May 26th) at Smallwood. Jonquil Hemming will be the coach and interested members must be confidently jumping 1 meter cross country.

Dressage

The new open Dressage test 2014 is now available to download from the Dressage Test pages of the National Website. This test has been used at the Area Winter League Events and will be used at the Championship. It will also be used at the Summer Area Competition. It replaces the Open Dressage Test 2008.

In order to comply with music licence requirements, Dressage to Music Competitors need to be either full or music members of British Dressage. BD offers a special rate to PC members wanting to be music members. For more information please contact British Dressage – www.britishdressage.co.uk

PONY CLUB CAMP

We have been offered a bespoke few days at Somerford, where a lot of you want to go. The dates are Wednesday 30th July to arrive between 6 and 7pm

We have full use of the Cross Country, Farm ride, Showjumping outdoor and flatwork outdoor with dressage markers until Sunday 3rd August when we need to leave by 3pm. We have a pavilion which has a kitchen, function room, male & female toilets and showers. We can sleep in the function room if it is a torrential Summer, but ideally, we will sleep in tents, trailers or wagons all in a bespoke area. I am suggesting that we run our normal camp, a mini camp for eight year olds & under (or slightly older children subject to ability) and a Senior camp for over 16 year olds all at the same time…. This is because we are charged for 26 stables & the above listed facilities, so we need to fill them! The Senior camp would ride twice on the 31st, 1st and 2nd and once on the 3rd and have ground work lesson as well as the usual lectures/stable management daily The Main campers would ride twice on the above days, once on the 3rd and have lectures/stable management and an unmounted activity on the 30th, 31st, 1st and 2nd The mini campers would ride once on the 31st – 3rd inclusive and have pony and non pony activities each day as well. To cover costs, we need to charge £250 per person and take 26 riding members. Payment can be spread over the coming months. The costs work out at £62.50 per day which includes all your tuition, activities, food, and horses stable, feed, hay and bedding. Therefore there are NO hidden costs. I think this is a great opportunity for our club to camp together….. We can mark out the sleeping quarters so that parents can stay with Mini campers without disrupting our older children and the staff responsible for them and I feel that feeding these parents evens out the cost fairly….. I need you to respond ASAP to  Elaine confirming if you want a place. I have accepted the offer as Somerford has a waiting list, so lets make this thing happen!

UPDATE

Hi all, February has got off to a disruptive start with the high winds, but not to be deterred, I suggest we carry on as planned and put up with any necessary last minute changes of plans if we need to….

So, Thursday night, between 6 and 9pm is Dressage at Osbaldeston. At the moment we only have Ricki booked on, so please get your name to me by tomorrow night if you want a place. The Dressage evening we have held in this format so far was superb and I don’t want to cancel unless we really need to because our judge, coach and Osbaldeston have arranged their diaries around us.
We will run the Pony Club walk trot test for lead reins and absolute beginners.
Pony Club intro test for the beginners to dressage who are competent at canter
Pony Club Novice 2009
Pony Club intermediate 2013
All tests can be downloaded from the link on our web site… just go to the Dressage page , I will happily read for anyone on Thursday evening
The cost is £15….an absolute bargain for two test rides, which you will receive score sheets for, and 20 minutes of coaching. Don’t forget we have a British Dressage coach and judge. The evening is designed to encourage dressage in Pony Club and I assure you , you will enjoy the experience.
Remember book on by tomorrow night and I will send you the times of your test & lesson on Tuesday evening.
Friday night is showjumping at Brookfield with Di.
£10 per session between 7 and 9pm.
Beginners to advanced welcome….
Book on with Tracy Todd by Tuesday night and Tracy will send you your times on Wednesday evening.
I hope to see you all at one or both events this week,
