Rally Information
What is a rally? A working rally is one at which instruction is given. It may be either mounted or unmounted, the latter usually being for horse/pony care instruction. Rallies may be show jumping, cross country, flatwork/dressage or a combination. There are also stable management rallies and games rallies. The time of the rally and venue will be given in the programme. The time stated is the actual start time, so please arrive early so that you are tacked up and ready to ride. You will be told who your instructor is, and you should then proceed to the arena with your instructor. Parents are welcome to stay and watch at rallies, but the organisation of the rally is at the discretion of the Senior Instructor. Help from parents is needed at all events, especially when packing up at the end of a rally. Please put your name forward if you feel you are able to help. We are all volunteers and need your support.
PONY CLUB CLOTHING For our rallies we expect our members to wear a Pony Club tie and Sweatshirt. Our secretary Liz has some stock left of these or you can buy them online. The sweatshirts and a few other printed items like polo shirts and jackets are available at Wainwrights. https://www.wainwrightscreenprint.co.uk/
Please note the new ‘whip rule’ – the maximum length of the “Whip” is 70cm and must be no less than 45cm. The “Contact area”, is considered to be 2/5’s (two fifths) of the overall length of the “Whip” and must be covered with a “Pad”. There must be no “binding” within 17 centimetres of the end of the “Pad”.
Hat Rule 2024
The Pony Club follows the British Equestrian Federation on its Standards for Riding Hats.
It is mandatory for all Members to wear a protective helmet at all times when mounted with a chinstrap fastened and adjusted so as to prevent movement of the hat in the event of a fall. This rule defines the quality of manufacture that is required. The individual sports also have additional requirements with regard to colour and type. It is strongly recommended that second hand hats are not purchased.
Body Protector Rule 2024
A body protector is compulsory for all Pony Club Cross Country riding (including Arena Eventing)
and Pony Racing activities whether it be training or competition. A body protector for these
activities must meet BETA 2018 Level 3 Standard (blue and black label)
SOME OTHER POINTS TO REMEMBER FOR RALLIES
Offers of help in setting up or clearing away afterwards would be appreciated.
Always arrive with adequate time to determine which ride you are in and be tacked up and ready to start at the right time.
Parents – please watch from a distance. You may not always agree with the instructor but remember that they are responsible for the ride, so please do not interfere. If you have a complaint, speak to the organiser or the DC.
Please remember to thank the organiser, your instructor and hosts.
