Dear Member/Parent,
Please find below details of this years Craven Camp to be held at Wellington Riding Centre, Heckfield, near Reading from Sunday 24th July – Thursday 28th July 2022 (mini camp 24th -26th July 2022).

IMPORTANT: In order to attend camp, all members must have attended 3 ridden rallies between the 1st January 2022 and the start of camp.

Please note that parents of children over the age of 10 will not be able to attend camp between Sunday 2pm and Thursday 9am. Only parents of children under that age will be able to stay overnight at camp. Those parents will be required to provide their own meals or pay a set amount for meals to be provided for you (details and costs to follow). You are of course able to take your child home at night if you wish but this must be known to Sophie.

Please ensure your child has had lunch before arriving on site on Sunday.

All parents are invited to attend a briefing on the Sunday at 1.00pm (depart by 2pm) and to come and watch the competition on Thursday morning at 10am – 12.30pm with a presentation at 1pm. All pony club members must be offsite by 2pm at the latest having had their stable signed off by a committee member before departing. It is important that all parents attending in between these times remain outside of the arena unless your child is on the lead rein.

We will place your child in a ride that we deem to be suitable for their age and ability. This can be very challenging and unfortunately once decided we are unable to change the groups at anyone but the DC or instructor’s request.

Parents who are eligible to stay will need to sign in and out with Sophie or Fiona at all times. Those parents will also need to undergo a DBS check (at your own cost) so you will need to let us know by 31st May if you are planning to stay so we have enough time to complete these.

Camp details;

* Camp will start at 1.00pm on Sunday 24th July 2022 with a briefing for all members and their parents.

* Please arrive for 12.30pm and leave your pony on the trailer until passports have been checked and the trot up is completed. You will then be shown to your allocated stable.

* Riders will need to be tacked up and ready to ride at 2.00pm.

* Parents, with the exception of those with children under 10years as mentioned above are then asked to leave camp until the Thursday at 10.00am or they may return to stay the night if their child is under 10yrs of age. We would like all ridden sessions to be attended by the riders, instructors and committee helpers only. Mini parents on site may of course watch but we ask that you remain outside of the arena unless your child is on the lead rein. You may also be asked to help with other tasks throughout the week.

* If you are new to camp and not sure whom you might share a tent with don’t worry as we can help with finding someone to share with, just let us know.

Please Note: Children may not stay in Lorries or caravans unattended due to health and safety factors.

* It is easier for the children if you are able to leave your trailer at camp for the week, as storage space is very limited, you might be asked to share this space.

* We have prepared a kit list for you on the camp event on Spond. Please name all clothes and belongings to make sure they do not get lost.

* We suggest everyone brings some pocket money as there is a vending machine/cafe and a shop on site.

* Please worm all horses/ponies the week before camp.

* This is a mixed age camp and if a member of the Pony Club is found in possession of alcohol and prohibitive substances at any point during camp they will be sent home immediately.

* In the interests of safety, please leave all medicines for ponies and children with Sophie/Fiona when you arrive with clear instructions, and leave dogs at home as Wellington has requested the site be a dog free zone in the interests of safety.

* One bag of chopped straw will be provided (this is the only type of bedding permitted by Wellington) – one bag is usually enough to set a stable

* There will be various low-key competitions going on with team points awarded and a chance for the younger ones to earn various badges.

* Camp will end at 1.30pm on Thursday 28th July 2022 with all leaving site by 2pm.

* In the event of very severe weather please be aware that camp may be abandoned and the children may be sent home. If you have any queries, please ring Sophie Pope on 07769684409.

Wellington offers excellent facilities. The safety and comfort of the children will always be of paramount importance and we recognise that for some this may be the first time that they are away from their families. Committee and senior members will be on hand to assist members at all times.
Please complete the booking form in the link on this email as soon as possible to secure a place. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards
Sophie Pope

2021 Camp review: Once again we returned to Wellington Equestrian with COVID guidelines to adhere to although less restrictive to 2020. In these strange times  we still managed to take advantage of their fantastic facilities with bubbles of 6 as a non residential camp (except the horses who stayed onsite) We had full use of their fantastic arena along with use of the XC and other arenas throughout the week including their new gallops.   Thank you to our brilliant instructors Ali, Victoria, Shelley, Sarah and Alyssa and Connie, just the right combination of tuition and fun for all. We managed to fit in lots of badge work and some E and D tests throughout the 4 days with lots of our members enjoying their success.  All in all everyone had lots of fun and the ponies and riders had a busy 4 days!
