May Bank Holiday Reports

Area 12 Mounted Games

First up was our Mounted Games teams and pairs competing at the Area 12 qualifier.

Well done to Arlo, Zoe, Hugo and Lyra for competing in the Seniors on a four; with all of them doing all the races. They came 4th, which is a marvellous result and featured some magnificent vaulting from Hugo and Buzz!

Our Juniors were Rory, Hugo, Arlo, Elsie and Kasima. Strong and determined riding throughout and brilliant teamwork. Friendships flourished during the races whilst they were supporting each other.

Next came the turn of the fast Flamstead pairs; Issy & Macey and Zoe & Lyra in some extraordinarily fast races against fantastic competition. Zoe and Lyra narrowly missed direct qualification to zones in 3rd place. Macey did some lovely vaults and Issy showed tremendous skills but unfortunately it wasn’t there day but there will be more from this pair to come.

Now for the cutest of them all; our novice team of Charlotte, Chloe, Toby, Elia and Elsie. With smiles throughout and plenty of sweets our younger members enjoyed the relaxed and non-competitive races. All ponies were hoof perfect and it was lovely to see them all grow in confidence through the session.

We’ve all got our fingers crossed for a wild card to Zones and would love to have some more members join us to get ready for next years fun.

(PS A huge congratulations to Issy, who has just this evening been selected to ride for the England South MGA team!)

Bignall Park Hunter Trials

Bicester and Warden Hill Pony Club hosted another excellent Hunter trial at Bignall Park, which offered long grass and old turf, and 2 courses, a smaller area for 30 through to 60cm, and a larger area over several fields of parkland for the 70 and above.  Scoring was interesting as for most of the smaller classes, it was not only judged on jumping penalties, but also on style.  This was also the case for the 70cm pairs class which Lily-May and Jess made their pair debut in, not only as a pair but also at that height.  They both rode beautifully, ponies were great and they flew round clear, only losing out on style marks as they weren’t as close together as some of the other more established combinations.
Frank was next to attempt the 70cm course, as an individual.  After breaking his arm this was one of the first rides back and so uncertain how it was going to go, but Frank rode positively and he and Roy took the course on boldly and looked super strong.  They finished with a lovely clear and landed a rosette along the way for 5th place.
In the afternoon Ciara and Euan rode some lovely rounds in the welcoming 60cm class, and finished 5th and 11th respectively.
Later in the day it was the turn for our older members in the 90cm class.  Molly B rode a strong clear and finished in 8th place, and Jess R sensibly retired after a good start but her mare took a knock to her leg on a jump, so decided to save her for another day.
Well done all!  A lovely show and definitely one for the diary again next year!
