National Tetrathlon Championships Report

What a fantastic weekend it was – full of fun, laughter, birthdays and plenty of Tetrathlon challenges, all tackled in seriously hot weather!

Our Flamstead squad shone throughout, with seven riders qualifying for the National Championships. Huge congratulations to Jess, Molly, Josie, Jemima, Penny, Florence, and Zoe on earning their places. Sadly, following Pontispool, Molly was unable to compete, while Josie chose to focus on eventing at the Chairman’s Cup later this week.

After the first day, Jess was sitting in 1st place in the Intermediates, having won the shoot and finished 2nd in the swim. Penny was in 5th place in the Juniors, with a strong score of 940 in the shoot and an excellent swim. Jemima and Florence also achieved personal bests in their swims, while Zoe came close to matching her swim on too, leaving everything wide open for day two.

Cross-country day brought its own drama. Jess was delighted with Fred’s comeback and secured a solid ride score, although it was not the 1400 points and knocked Jess in 19th place overall. Penny rode a super clear round, picking up only a few time faults to score 1,306 and remaining within the top 10, while Florence had a brilliant round on Tommy, earning a solid 1,200 points.

Zoe and Jemima both rode the hobby horse beautifully across the start box and, in my mind, secured the full 1400 points for style!

Then came the Tet party – a real highlight of the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Finally, the run phase wrapped up the competition and settled the final placings. Jess climbed a few places to finish 17th in the Intermediates, while Penny secured 18th place in the Juniors.

Our Intermediate team of Jess, Jemima and Grace (OBHN) finished 6th in the Area team competition, and our Junior team of Penny, Zoe & Florence also placed 6th in the Branch competition.

It was a weekend full of learning, progress, and plenty of positives. Many new Tet friendships made and old ones enjoyed!

Well done to every single competitor – we’re incredibly proud of you all!
