NAF Regional Championships Report
A huge well done to our fab fourteen, who travelled to Aston Le Walls for the NAF Regional Championships last weekend. With the heatwave well and truly over, our formidable 70 and 80 competitors were up against the best in the region and did us proud.
Dressage
A massive thanks to Laragh Osman for warming up the riders for the championship dressage classes at Aston le Walls.
PC70
A well-deserved podium finish for our team, who came 3rd against 23 teams — what an incredible result! Congratulations to those in the team: Ciara (68.20%, 7th), Araiya, Frank (62.80%, 9th), and Euan (63.40%, 22nd).
Araiya made the individual ride-off with an incredible score of 72.40%, placing 2nd in her arena. Outstanding riding, well deserved.
Well done to Hugo for qualifying and riding a lovely test (63.40%, 21st).
PC80
Congratulations to all riders who qualified and rode fantastic championship tests on the day.
The team (Ciara, Araiya, Frank, Emily) came an amazing 4th place against some very competitive dressage partnerships — we are beyond proud of you all.
Araiya (69.60, 5th) Ciara S (67.20%, 7th), Frank (65.60%, 9th), Emily A (65.60%, 11th), Zoe (64.20%, 16th), Lucy A (61.60%, 22nd).
The flatwork practised in dressage is pivotal to improved success in nearly every other ridden discipline at Pony Club. Everyone is welcome to join the dressage riders at rallies and competitions — the PC70 test is a very encouraging place to start.
Show Jumping
We had 5 fabulous show jumpers representing Flamstead in the 70cm class at Regional Champs. Hugo, Ciara, Jess and Lilly May formed a team of 4 and Violet represented the club as an individual.
The squad braved some very wet and windy weather and a very early start but came out all guns blazing with Hugo, Jess and Lilly May all putting in super clears in round 1 to keep the team right in up there in the competition. Violet added just 4 faults from an early stop before Monty flew around the remainder of the course whilst the normally hugely reliable Raffi took an uncharacteristic dislike to some large black planks.
Round 2 was a very large 75cm, and technical. Our team, benefitting from a super warm up from Georgie, all jumped really well with all 5 completing the course with just a few penalties dropping the team to a very respectable 11th place. A huge well done to all of our young team and their ponies, who should be very proud of themselves.
Eventing
Sunday saw the turn of our PC70 and PC80 eventing teams. The sun was out and everyone who had been there on the Saturday too, was very appreciative of the dry weather!
The 70 team of Violet, Frank, Ciara and Hugo had an early start, with Ciara kicking off the dressage at 8.20am! All 4 produced some lovely tests and went forward to the show jumping with a great start for the team. Violet, Frank and Ciara all rode lovely clears, with just an unfortunate pole for Hugo on his young mare. This put the team in a great position for the most exciting but most nail biting (for the parents) part, the cross country! It was a full up championship course with plenty of questions with related distances and challenging combinations. Hugo was first to give it a go and rode a lovely solid clear round, displaying what a lovely partnership he and his new pony are developing already. Violet and Ciara both followed with another 2 lovely clears. Unfortunately Franks pony Roy, had a bit of a baby moment and took a dislike to a particular fence on the course.
There was then a wait whilst the rest of the class finished (but a great chance to cheer on the 80 team who had started their class, and grab some pizza) following the final results anxiously, it became clear that the team had finished in 2nd place! This is a fantastic result – to even get to regionals let alone in the top placings is absolutely fantastic, and a real testament to their training and preparation for the day, and of course those all important tips, coaching and course walking from Georgie who was supporting them the whole day. Individually, Violet came a fantastic 3rd in her section, with great dressage score of 33, Ciara 3rd, with another great dressage of 31, and Hugo 8th, with a dressage of 36. Frank also had a brilliant dressage score of 29.8!
Meanwhile the 80 team of Florence, Zoe, Sienna and Molly D were underway, and all produced good solid dressage tests. Sienna scored a brilliantly polished test for 29.6, Molly 33.6, Zoe 31.8, and Florence 40.8. Then on to the show jumping. Florence rode a great clear, as did Zoe on borrowed pony Storm. Storm belongs to Izzy McNamara, who kindly offered Zoe the ride whilst her pony had some time off. Zoe had only ridden him a handful of times and had adjusted to him beautifully. Sienna had an unfortunate 4 faults, and Rauri took a sudden dislike to a filler which caught Molly out and she came off, which frustratingly for her meant she then could not continue to the XC.
Florence, Zoe and Sienna all prepared for the tough XC course to follow, and each rode determined clears, a fantastic end to the day! The team finished in 5th place, with an individual placing of 5th for Sienna, 6th for Zoe and 9th for Florence in their separate sections.
Huge well done and thank you to all riders, ponies and parents for their immaculate turnout, great team spirit, resilience, and for representing Flamstead, we are very proud of you all! And a very special thankyou to Georgie, who was there at the crack of dawn, assisting with dressage and show jumping warm ups, walking courses and offering her invaluable support, encouragement and advice.
Until next year, we now turn our attention to the Spring Festival Arena Eventing challenge, with the qualifiers on 11th October at Bury Farm. (see FPC website)
