Area Eventing
Sunday saw the turn of the Flamstead Eventers, competing for a qualification to the regional and national championships. Georgie was there the whole day, giving lots of support and advice, and we had amazing results, here is her report….
The day started with the 80 team. We had Molly Davies, Florence Atkins, Zoe Hooper and Sienna Scriven competing. A last-minute pony substitution for Zoe, who borrowed Izzy McNamara‘s pony, having only sat on him a couple of times before. Thank you so much to the McNamara family for being so generous.
Sienna scored a fantastic dressage score of 18.8, with Zoe also scoring a super mark of 31.8. All four girls jump lovely showjumping rounds, Zoe just unfortunately lowering one rail for four faults, while the other 3 all went clear.
In the cross country, Molly and Zoe’s ponies flew around clear, finishing 2nd in their sections. Florence also had a super clear to finish 4th in hers. Unfortunately Sienna’s pony wasn’t quite his usual self on the cross country and picked up a few faults, dropping them down to 5th.
These results were good enough to put the team in 3rd place, picking up a qualification to the regional finals in August.
Next up we had Jemima Hunnisett competing as an individual in the 90, looking for that all important qualification to the Pony Club Championships.
She produced a lovely dressage test for a mark of 31.2. She jumped a fluent showjumping round, although sadly rubbed two poles and they both came down, giving her a score of 8. She then jumped very confidently around the cross country course, picking up 1.2 time penalties for going too fast, which was good enough to put her in 3rd place. This gave her a well earned ticket to Pony Club Champs.
Josie Reid’s turn was next, battling with a nasty cough and cold, and certainly not feeling herself. She rode a lovely smooth dressage test for a score of 32. In the show jumping Beano was jumping beautifully until the penultimate fence where they met it on a tricky stride and she picked up faults here. In the cross country they struggled to find their rhythm early on, but after a slightly rocky start, they finished very confidently, also picking up a ticket to the Pony Club Championships.
Finishing the day, we had our 70 team consisting of Hugo Hooper, Violet Grimston, Frank Hamilton and Ciara Scriven. They all produced very pleasing dressage tests, with Ciara Scriven scoring 27.8 to lead her arena. They all jumped super show jumping rounds and flew around the cross country. Frank and Roy had a slight steering issue at a very tight turn half way round the course which proved to be too tight for a very bold Roy and he just picked up one refusal here.
These results were good enough for a team win, with Ciara also winning her section, Violet finishing 2nd, Frank 6th and Hugo 9th on his lovely new young pony.
A fantastic (if not rather hot) day, with every Flamstead rider picking up a qualification to Regional or National Championships, well done!
Huge thanks to Sarah Hudgell, Olivia Fisher and Amelie Langan for volunteering to fence judge, these events cannot happen without a huge number of volunteers so we are very grateful to them.
We are now all looking forward to National and Regional Champs!
