Ireland Tetrathlon Report
An epic Tetrathlon adventure for Josie and Beano started with a horse lorry convoy to Wales, where we then caught the Ferry over to Dublin and once landed, travelled on to Punchestown Racecourse for the Irish Pony Club Tetrathlon Championships.
Here we were joined by competitors from around the world and after some setting in and socialising, the competition started. Sadly, Josie was not on her usual form competitively. One of her main goals though was to jump a clear 1400 around the fabulous 110 course with jumps the likes we had never seen, despite competing at Novice level BE all this year. She and Beano flew around for one of the few of the day. You can watch her video here.
After the Gala Dinner, we then moved onto Northern Ireland for the Senior Regional & International Tetrathlon at Castle Irvine, where we managed a few days being tourists before ramping it back up again for another competition and plenty of parties.
Despite the disappointing scores and a torrent of rain on our last few days, we had absolutely the best time, largely thanks to the warm and witty welcome from the Irish, who even arranged a parade through Irvinestone and came out to cheer us. Also, our wonderful Tetfam, who make everything joyful – there is never a dull moment in Tetrathlon!
Massive thanks to John Flood, the Irish Pony Club, Heather Williams and her team at Area 17 for the most incredible set of weekends, the effort that went into all this is just extraordinary.
We hope Josie will be feeling better in time for this weekend’s final bout at the JCB Pony Club Championships!
