Regional Eventing Qualifier Report

On the 9th of June, some of the younger eventers in the club headed to Elmwood for the Regional Eventing competition.

We had a team and 2 individuals competing in the 70 class. The team consisted of Zoe Hooper and her relatively new horse Gurnos Welsh Rapture who was in the top 3 after dressage, show jumped clear and then just had a couple of inexperienced moments on the cross country to finish just outside the top 10. Guy Grimston put in a very solid dressage test and jumped a beautiful clear in the show jumping, but sadly his pony wasn’t so keen on the cross country, despite some very positive riding from Guy. Jemima Hunnisett produced a nice test and a clear in the show jumping, but unfortunately one stop on the cross country dropped her from 2nd to 10th place. Sienna Scriven was the last team member, and she had a super day, leading from start to finish with 3 very polished performances in each phase to finish on her amazing dressage score of 25.4.

Our 2 individuals in the 70 were the Issott twins on their lovely greys, who both rode brilliantly to finish in 11th and 12th places, qualifying along with the team for the Champs in August at Aston le Walls.

In the 80 class we had a team of 3 consisting of Rory Laing, Penny Reid and John Grimston. All 3 riders rode super dressage tests to be awarded good scores, with John gaining the best mark of the Flamstead riders on 31.5. Unfortunately Rory was the only rider to complete the competition. He picked up 4 faults in the showjumping, followed by a super clear across country to finish 5th  and qualify for Champs. Without the show jumping faults he’d have been 2nd, it was a very tight section.

Well done to all the Flamstead members, it was a lovely day out and the children all supported each other brilliantly which was so great to see. Hopefully next year we’ll have even more Flamstead members out eventing to join in the fun.

PS Massive Thank you to Jules, Rory, Jamie and Andy, who all volunteered as Fence Judges over the weekend, without whom we wouldn’t have been able to compete – amazing job guys.
