Annual Pony Club Camp Report

Our annual Pony Club Camp was once again a great success, with 42 members taking part over four fantastic days. We are extremely grateful to the Monk family for kindly allowing us to hold the camp at Mostyn Farm Ride.

Throughout the camp, our members received excellent instruction from seven dedicated coaches. Sessions included flatwork, show jumping, gridwork, polework and cross-country jumping, giving riders the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills. Due to the exceptionally hard ground, it was suggested that we swap one of our planned activities for a ride along Talacre Beach. I have to admit I spent a sleepless night worrying about everything that could possibly go wrong, but thankfully it proved to be a wonderful experience and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

As well as the beach ride, campers also enjoyed riding around the farm ride before finishing the camp with a compressed eventing competition on the final day, where they were able to put everything they had learned into practice.

Twenty members also achieved their Fundraising Badge during camp by organising a fantastic evening of activities to raise money for the branch. They put a great deal of thought and effort into planning the event and sourcing some excellent prizes. Activities included a hobby horse competition, a quiz, guessing the number of treats in the jar, guessing the pony’s name and apple bobbing.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the opportunity to throw wet sponges at the seven coaches! What started as sponge throwing soon developed into a full-scale water fight, with plenty of laughter from everyone involved. Held on the Tuesday evening, the fundraising event was a tremendous success, raising an impressive £717 for the branch.

A huge thank you goes to Ann Jones, who provided a delicious lunch every day, keeping both riders and volunteers well fed. We are also very grateful to Jo Elso, who ensured the food was laid out each day and kept the dining area clean, tidy and welcoming throughout the camp.

Special thanks also go to Bridlewood Stables for generously allowing us to park on their premises so that we could safely ride down to Talacre Beach.

Finally, thank you to all of our coaches, volunteers, parents and supporters who gave their time and energy to make the camp run so smoothly. Most importantly, well done to all of our riders for their enthusiasm, hard work and willingness to learn. It was wonderful to see so much progress and confidence grow over the four days, and we look forward to next year’s camp.

Pony Club Home Nations Polocrosse

Congratulations to Isabella and Daisy Stone of Flint & Denbigh Pony Club who were both selected to play on the Wales Senior Team at the Pony Club Home Nations Polocrosse competition that took place in Gloucestershire at the end of July.

For the first time in Home Nations history, Wales won every trophy as the Minis, Juniors and the Seniors all won their sections so this meant Wales won the overall Triple Diamond Trophy too. Wales also won The Field Shield where the teams are judged during the training week prior to the competition on their horse welfare standards, attitude to training and overall team spirit. This was an amazing achievement for the Wales team.

Isabella, Daisy and Katie Davies are competing for Flint & Denbigh in the Senior section of the Polocrosse at Pony Club Champs if anyone would like to come and watch.
