FnD – Triathlon Champs
Five superfit Flint and Denbigh Members had qualified to compete at the Champs held in Grantham on March 24th and very good time was had by all. The five were;
- Harriet Goodall,
- Leah Lamb,
- Olivia Bexon (Seniors),
- Orla Kissane (Junior) and
- Casper Kissane (Mini Boys).
We travelled there on the Saturday evening and stayed in a B&B – (all 10 of us in one room was a bit much) – quite near the venue.
Members were all competing as individuals but some had been selected to be in Area 5 teams. There were Senior, Junior and Mini teams from all Pony Club Areas including Ireland so competitors were the cream of the country and had all qualified to get there.
The 3 FnD Senior girls, in a class of 46, had mixed fortunes. Olivia’s shoot let her down – she has only just moved into the Senior distance of 10m shoot, Harriet’s run was not her best and Leah’s hat came off in the swim! Nevertheless, Leah shot well 920 and came 24th overall. Leah was also in the Area 5 team which came 6th out of 19 Area teams.
Orla Kissane was selected to be in the Area 5 Junior team which came 2nd out of 21 Area teams. They were beaten by just 49 points (9209 and 9258) which shows just how important every metre/sec counts. Individually, Orla came 7th out of 54 Junior girls. Just amazing! She had the 2nd best run in a time of 5min 7secs for 1500 m. The fastest was 4min 56 secs.
Casper Kissane in the Mini boys did remarkably well – he had the fastest run of the Class of 45 boys – 1000m in just 3min 13 secs. Amazing! His swim was well up with the best too but his shoot let him down. I think he forgot to keep one eye open !
Well done FnD’s – you were all brilliant.
This event in the Tetrathlon calendar always has a wonderful atmosphere and the members (and parents) have a great time. It is certainly a competition to aim for.
