Area 5 Mounted Games Success at Malpas

On 2nd May, our riders headed to Malpas to compete at the Area 5 Mounted Games, and what a fantastic day of sport it turned out to be.

Our Junior team rode superbly throughout the competition. The team was made up of Elis Roberts, Alys Evans, Megan Evans, Anni Morgan and Lyla Leevey, and they showed great teamwork, determination and skill.

After an exciting day of competition, the Junior team finished in 2nd place, an excellent achievement that has earned them qualification for the Zones in Leicestershire this July. This is a huge milestone for the riders, and a reward for all their hard work, practice and commitment.

We also had a great performance in the Pairs competition from Helen Jones and Catrin Morgan. They rode beautifully and finished in 3rd place, just narrowly missing out on 2nd after a tense run-off.

Although they missed automatic qualification by the smallest of margins, we are hopeful they will receive a wild card place for the Zones, which would be thoroughly deserved after such a strong performance.

A huge congratulations to all of our riders for riding so brilliantly and representing the Flint & Denbigh branch so well. Days like this are a reminder of the talent, dedication and sportsmanship within our Mounted Games community.

A special thank you must also go to Joe, whose dedication and support play such an important role behind the scenes. His commitment does not go unnoticed and makes a real difference to the success of our riders.

We now look ahead with excitement and pride as we prepare for the Zones later this summer — well done everyone!

Wynnstay Mounted Games Friendly – Malpas

What a fantastic weekend of mounted games fun we had at the Wynnstay Friendly held at Malpas on the 3rd and 4th of May. With great competition, brilliant teamwork and plenty of laughter both in and out of the ring, it truly was an event to remember.

Our senior team was made up of Ffion Roberts, Elis Roberts, Elen Roberts, Catrin Morgan and Anni Morgan. They showed great improvement given their limited experience as a team, gaining valuable competition experience and growing in confidence – all while having lots of fun along the way. They finished in 6th place at the end of their session.

The junior team of Megan Evans, Alys Evans, Elis Roberts, Anni Morgan and Lyla Leevey put in a strong performance, showing determination and great team spirit. They rode with enthusiasm and finished 4th in their section, a brilliant result in a competitive class.

We were also delighted to take two junior novice teams, both of whom had an absolute blast. One team, consisting of Cai Dixon, Ifan Johnson, Twm Johnson, Brooke Leevey and Esmay Eastwood, rode confidently and finished 2nd. Our other junior novice team, who needed very little assistnace this time – Jac Dixon, Polly Lowe, Elena Roberts and Harri Morgan – also had a fantastic weekend, finishing a very close 3rd. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm, smiles and growing confidence in the ring.

The fun didn’t stop when the riding ended. The older children thoroughly enjoyed the bingo and karaoke organised by the Wynnstay, while the ponies snoozed contentedly in their overnight pens. The younger children enjoyed playing together, and the parents rounded off the evening perfectly with a Chinese takeaway!

A huge thank you to the Wynnstay for organising such a fabulous, well‑run event and for making everyone feel so welcome. Thank you as well to all the parents who stepped in to steward and help over the weekend – your support is always greatly appreciated. And, as always, a massive thank you to Joe for all the time, encouragement and coaching he gives in the ring to all four teams.

Well done to everyone involved – we’re already looking forward to the next one!
