Area 5 Tetrathlon Qualifier – Berriewood and Wrekin College

The weather was perfect as was the ground. Flint & Denbigh had 4 members entered in the qualifying classes.

  • Orla Kissane (Senior Girl) who had a good shoot, exceptional run and a lovely clear XC on her young horse WON her class and has qualified for the Champs in August in Offchurch.
  • Casper Kissane came 3rd in a very strong Junior Boys class and is also off to the Champs. He had an exceptional shoot of 920 (for him!), an amazing run(3rd fastest) and a lovely clear round. All very exciting.

The XC course was challenging especially fence 5 which was an offset triple and caused many problems.

  • Zoe James and Catrin Morgan competed in the Mini class – which Zoe WON. Zoe had the fastest run and the best swim as well as a 1400 clear round XC.

Zoe James, Megan Evans and Catrin Morgan have been selected, along with 6 others from Wales, to compete in The Stepping Stones Tet at the Champs in August in Offchurch.  They will be in one of two Wales & Borders Teams competing against Scotland, Ireland and England. They will have a great time and we wish them Good Luck.

Tadpoles, Beanies and Tiddlers

While the older ones were competing to qualify for the PC Championships, some keen Beanies, Tadpoles and Tiddlers were giving it their all in the four phases.

The first day saw them contest the triathlon phases at Wrekin College. They all tried their best in the run and got some great times, all improving since the muddy winter triathlons. Joseff got the award for best run in the tadpole boys. The bean bag and shooting phase included some rogue bean bags on their very own flight path, and Ioan’s first efforts shooting can only get better! After refueling on cake and sandwiches, Arabella and Amber showed great resilience to swim nearly two lengths and Harri, Ioan and Joseff improved from last time.

The competition carried on the following day at Berriewood with the mini cross country taking place in an enclosed field. There were some challenging obstacles to navigate including a little ditch for the tadpoles, a mound and a slip rail. It was certainly a step up in difficulty from show jumping on a manege and a great introduction to cross country. The organisers were very friendly and helpful and the children were allowed some assistance to get round with the aim to get everyone around the course. All the children showed lots of determination on their ponies (some ponies more obliging than others) to complete their rounds and the competition.

It was a fun weekend doing all four phases where lots was learned for the next time. Everyone came home with some prizes at the end of the day which was a nice surprise!

  • Joseff 2nd Tadpole Boys with best run and best swim
  • Ioan 1st Tadpole Novice Boys
  • Phoebe 5th Tiddler girls
  • Arabella and Amber only just missed out on the placings in a very competitive beanie girls section.
  • The F&D Beanies team of Arabella, Amber, Harri and Ioan were 5th and came home with rosettes and lickits for their ponies!
  • Joseff was part of a mixed Area 5 team. Their team won the tadpole team comp.

A lovely well organised weekend held at good facilities.
