Memories of Gloria Wright

This is the day we performed a musical ride at the Day In The Park Glossop. Left to right: Mr Ken Marsden, Gloria Wright with a Beswick Horse she was presented with (between PC Flags), Mr Les Barnett the D.C. and guest (name unknown).

“It was the first time we did anything at Glossop Pony Club and the members flocked to practice and I had a hard job to choose who to use.  A super day and the start of a very successful Club. Our next ‘biggie’ was taking 3 big box loads to camp at Beverley Race Course. It was brilliant, we lost a Shetland, but on a re-check of the stables the little ‘darling’ had rolled in its thick straw bed and then just lay there and the Straw settled over him.  What a camp it was too, half of the children and ponies had never been away from home before, let alone seen, wait for it, a Microwave that had just been installed in the canteen!”

“We went to Beverley for quite a number of years and were allowed to go on the racehorse gallops on the private area.  Those were the days when you rode bareback, swam in the sea, enjoyed a day out at Hornsea having fish and chips and a visit to the pottery factory. A lot of parents were treated to Hornsey Pottery gifts, I still have mine; lovely, lovely memories. Gloria”
