INSTRUCTOR – DAVID THOMAS

David has been coaching from the age of 18. As a competitive rider David was regularly on the circuit competing up to 1.30 level, also producing young horses for himself and owners to include Cecil Williams who was based in Essex. Other riders that rode for Cecil included Peter Charles , Robert Smith and Alan Clutterbuck just to name a few .

Whilst specialising in show jumping, David also has a very high level of knowledge in flat work too. Cementing the need for our riders jumping at the higher levels that groundwork is the key to success.

David has experience coaching across the levels from novice to riders on GB teams. His pupils have enjoyed competing at European Young Rider securing medals, others have gone on to ride at top stables all around the world including Schockemohle, Stal Schep  and Euro Horse . He has also trained the Royal Naval Show Jumping team having wins at the Royal Windsor horse show and Olympia and won many championships with various riding clubs and pony clubs .

INSTRUCTOR – GEORGINA MARKS

Georgina was an enthusiastic member of the Pony Club as a child and is keen that today’s children should experience all the fun she had and coaches the Hambledon Hunt North pony club across all levels and disciplines. As a British Horse Society Accredited Coach she really enjoys building confidence and developing skills of both the horse and rider. Also encouraging new partnerships and those with younger horses to come and train in a safe and supportive environment.

In her own riding career Georgina competed up to what is now 3* level eventing and Showjumped to 1.30m, all of which has been on horses she has bred herself or produced from a young age. She still regularly competes in all affiliated disciplines. Thinking she would concentrate on Dressage for a little while Georgina and Cracker have been performing consistently up the levels currently training at Prix St George. However the lure of eventing is strong and with her wonderful homebred Lettuce she qualified and completed Badminton Grass Roots in 2025 and is already looking towards a successful campaign in 2026!

INSTRUCTOR – KATIE CARRS

Katie is a very experienced rider who has competed successfully up to 3* level eventing including representing GB internationally. She has also ridden to 1.20m show jumping and regularly competes at Prelim to Advance Medium British Dressage on a wide variety of horses and ponies.

Katie was lucky enough to work for Pippa Funnell after her A levels and from there was offered a job working for Irish Olympic event rider Sam Watson who she spent 7 years working with in both the UK and Ireland as his second rider. The training she received from Sam and the knowledge passed on from his head groom Hannah about top level horse management was invaluable. Upon leaving Ireland Katie was offered a job as a rider for William Fox Pitt where she then spent a season.

Katie now splits her time between riding, competing and training the next generation of riders which she enjoys thoroughly. Her Pony Club rallies focus on the correct riding technique and getting the best out of the horse and rider combination but above all making sure everyone has fun and enjoys working with their ponies.

At Hambledon Hunt North we welcome all levels of abilities and Katie looks forward to meeting you at her rallies.

INSTRUCTOR – SAM McEWAN

Sam has had horses all her life. Her Father, a farrier and her Mum a classical dressage trainer and judge it was only natural that she followed suit and has been working within the equine profession for many years.

She has competed at every discipline, Showjumping, Eventing, Hunting and Carriage Driving but her passion lies with Dressage. Working up to advanced medium and having trained numerous Native ponies to medium level very successfully.  She aptly demonstrates that these fabulous ponies really can strut their stuff – a great influence on our younger riders and their ponies.
