Rockingham Horse Trials Pony Club Show Jumping – Report

Team Sapphires Section A, 7th 70cm
Team Diamonds Section C, 7th 70cm
Team Crystals, 9th 80cm
Team Stars, 5th 90cm

Well, the very long day was worth it for the Ludlow crew at Rockingham yesterday.  Rosettes for every team we entered.

The 70cm teams were made up of members who had never been to Rockingham before, some were on young/green ponies, some had new rides, and most of them had never been to an event so big before. They didn’t let that stop them though and although we had some faults we had no stops which was far better than many teams, especially in Arena 1 which was causing particular trouble for competitors.

They really did blow me away with their riding, especially Oscar Morgan and Nancy Potter our two youngest competitors. There are some exciting and successful times ahead for them all I’m sure. Well done Ludlow Saphires, Tally Jordan, Nancy Potter, Oscar Morgan, Nyla Yarnold and Ludlow Diamonds Ellenna Lewis, Liv Hathaway, and Phoebe Breen.

The 80cm class was competitive. We had two fantastic clears from Abi Bradley and Liv Hathaway and just an unlucky plank from a very determined Phoebe Breen. Unfortunately, Ellenna Lewis’s round didn’t go to plan with a few too many faults, but thankfully that didn’t matter as the judges take the 3 best scores of the 4 riders to place the teams.

That’s why we always like to go with a team of 4 if we can.

After a long wait for the 90 cm class to start Scarlett Bailey jumped first for the Ludlow Stars.  A very stylish round and clear.  Abi Bradley had an unlucky pole over an up and down course and a long wait between classes for her mount Minty. Then Holly Bailey topped things off by flying round on her very keen Jack for another clear.

A huge thanks to all the parents for agreeing to get up so early and helping ensure everyone was in the right place at the right time, and to all the supporters who came along to cheer Ludlow on. Amanda Barker for her fantastic photos and Rosie Thomas for finding time around organising and riding her own horses to warm up the 70 teams.

We really are very lucky to have you Rosie!

Somerford Park Event Camp 2022

Wow! What a weekend!! Snow, sunshine, frost, sunshine, with a bit of rain thrown in for good measure but the weather certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of our pony club and friends. Our event camp has been running for a number of years now (pre-covid) and it was fabulous to see members enjoying the stunning facilities at Somerford Park again.

This year, we had members from other pony clubs join us and it was a resounding success, we hope they enjoyed attending as much as we did hosting them.

Everyone went away having learned lots (even though for some parents it was that camping in cold weather required additional layers) and hopefully it will be the kick start that they wanted for their event season.

Keep an eye on our facebook page for future camps and we look forward to seeing you all soon!

Ludlow Pony Club – AGM

Our Annual General Meeting is set for 18th March 2022 and we have had such fantastic support for the evening for members and families.  The evening will incorporate our AGM, a talk from team managers on Area competitions, and also our awards evening which was haven’t been able to hold since 2019 so that’s very exciting indeed!

Can’t wait to see you all there!
