National Tetrathlon Championships 9-12 August 2018 at Offchurch Bury
Following her performance at the Area 9 Tet qualifier Betsy was offered a wildcard (thanks to the Beaufort Hunt Tetrathlon Manager, Alex Connors) to the Tet Champs. Betsy trained hard for all 4 disciplines and was thrilled to achieve a pb in both the swim and the run phases. The xc course was the biggest and most technical Rupert had ever seen, but Betsy made good decisions throughout the ride and they completed safely. The atmosphere of the whole event was brilliant: friendly, supportive, competitive and we were lucky with the weather. It was simply inspiring to be there – and it would be even better if MPC could take a team or two next year! We need everyone interested to sign up and have a go, so we can improve training opportunities which will encourage more participation and success…

Report from Area Tetrathlon 8/9 July
Several of the Minchinhampton Tet squad competed in incredibly hot weather at Area Tetrathlon hosted by the Beaufort.
In the Tadpoles, Freddie competed on a mixed team with new Tet squad members Sophie and Max. It was great to see them all at their first competition together and all of them did incredibly well. Max was placed 10th and with the others will be a great team in the future. A very special well done to Max and Sophie for completing their first Tet. In the Mini Girls, Martha was 6th with a strong run in the heat and very respectable swim and ride. In the Junior Boys, Ollie was 9th with a great ride, swim and run. In the Intermediate, Betsy was 8th with a great ride and good results in the other disciplines.

Everyone did incredibly well to coax their horses and ponies around tough XC courses in the heat as well as perform to their best in the runs. Well done!

Update – Betsy has been offered a ‘wild card’ place at the Tet Championships this weekend – ‘Good Luck’ Betsy!

Double wins for Minchinhampton at the Inter Area Tet and Junior Regional Tet Championships!
Over half term, Ollie and Eezie were chosen to represent Minchinhampton and Area 9 at the Inter Area Tetrathlon at Bicton in Devon and selected for the Central England team at the Junior Regional Championships at Moreton Morrell.

Bicton came first with lots of competition from South, South West and Wales Pony Clubs. Ollie managed a PB in his swim and run, together with a great clear over a tough, full up 90cms XC course with Eezie. His result contributed to the overall Area 9 team win, alongside boys from the Beaufort and OBH and OIlie was 10th individually.

After a quick kit wash overnight, it was off to Moreton Morrell with the Central England team. The competition was really stiff with teams from all over the UK and Eire. The XC course in particular was very technical with fences that would not be seen in a 90cms eventing course. Ollie and Eezie again did a great round and Ollie managed another run PB! With other team members from the Beaufort, West Warwickshire and Ludlow they were 3rd overnight after the swim and shoot phase. The ride and run proved decisive and the Central England boys were the winners! They received their prize from Tim Vestey, Tetrathlon Chair and Rhian Gibson, Pony Club CEO.

A great few days experiencing the best that Pony Club has to offer in terms of testing sport and building fantastic friendships!

Report from the CVHPC Tetrathlon 21/22nd April
The Minchinhampton Tetrathlon squad did an amazing job at the weekend and gained some fantastic results at all levels – a massive well done to the whole team! The run was a particular feat being almost vertical and it was a testing XC course which caught a lot of riders out so results were not easy to achieve.
Beanies – Jasper was 2nd individually with Freddie 3rd individually. Freddie also achieved best run and the boys were in a mixed team with the Old Berks who came 2nd overall.
Tadpoles – Clara was 1st individually and also achieved best shoot. Clara was also in a mixed team with the Berkeley who came 3rd overall.
In the Mini Girls, Isla was 1st individually and also achieved best run. Martha was sadly not placed individually but together the girls were in a mixed team with the Cotswold and came 4th.
In the Junior Boys, Ollie was 1st individually with a PB shoot and best ride and in a mixed team with the Old Berks and Ludlow who were also placed 1st.
Well done everyone and we are now looking forward to the Ledbury Tet on 12th May. For more information please contact

March – Milton Keynes National Triathlon Championships

Well done to Isla who took part in the National Triathlon Championships on 18th March at Milton Keynes, it was a very cold and snowy day but Isla and her mother made the effort to get there, competed in the freezing conditions and Isla was placed 34th overall – which is a fantastic result at a National Competition.

Report from Tanya on the Beaufort Hunt PC Tetrathlon/Triathlon 10th & 11th February
Our tetrathletes were out in force at the weekend at the BHPC event and brought home a large clutch of rosettes for MPC at all levels. All Tet entries are automatically entered into the Tri as well and nearly all of our riders attempting the ride phase rode clears which put them in a good place ahead of the run, swim and shoot. The Tri was very competitive with athletes from across Area 9 and 10 taking part.

  •        In the Beanies, Jasper was 4th in the Tri and Freddie was 1st in the Tet and 2nd in the Tri and managed to secure the medal for best run. The boys were also part of the mixed Tri team which came 2nd
  • ·         In the Tadpoles, Clara jumped clear in the Tet but was sadly not well enough to take part in the Tri elements on Sunday.
  • ·         In the Mini girls, Martha was 8th in the Tet and Isla was 2nd in the Tet and 8th in the Tri. Their mixed Tri team was also 4th.
  • ·         In the Junior Boys, Ollie was 2nd in the Tet and 5th in the Tri and also managed to achieve the best swim medal and team 2nd.
  • ·         In the Open girls, Betsy was 2nd in the Tet and 6th in the Tri. Betsy’s team was also 1st.

A great achievement for every one taking part – well done to all our Tet team!
The next event is the Cotswold Hunt PC Tri in Cheltenham on 7th April. The schedule is attached and please make sure  you confirm your entries to tanya@echo-cc.co.uk by Thursday 15th March. The next Tet will be 21/22nd April and the schedule will be mailed out soon.

Jasper was 10th individually and team 6th in frogspawn.
Clara was 6th individually and team 6th in tadpoles.
Isla was 13th individually and team 2nd in mini girls.
Betsy was 9th individually and team 4th in junior girls.
Ollie was 4th individually and team 2nd in junior boys.
It’s great to see our members taking part in Tetrathlon & Triathlon competitions – well done to them all

Well done’ to Isla and Clara who took part in their first Triathlon on Sunday, both girls enjoyed the day and Isla did really well to come home with a 4th place rosette.
If you would like to have a go at Triathlon there are 2 competitions coming up in the new year – VWH Pony Club Triathlon on Sunday 28th January and the Beaufort PC are holding a Triathlon/Tetrathlon on 10th & 11th February, the jumping part of this competition will be over show jumps at Summerhouse, schedules for both competitions are attached to this email.

Please let me know if you would like more information about what is involved with the Triathlon & Tetrathlon and I will put you in touch with Sam Hunt or Ella Skelston who will be pleased to give you advice.

Area Tetrathlon Report Sat 8th & Sun 9th July – from Morag
Meg and Betsy took part in the Area Tetrathlon on the weekend. They both had their best shoots and a good swim on the Saturday and then a very full day Sunday. Both had excellent rides going clear XC, followed by a strong run from Betsy and a slightly disappointing run for Meg. The girls managed all day Sunday on their own as Sam and I were fence judging all day. Both girls showed a huge level of maturity managing themselves and their horses without any assistance. Their mixed team came second and Betsy was placed 9th individually, a great result in a very competitive section. Well done girls.

Report from Tanya re Inter Area Tetrathlon at Bicton, Devon
Two Minchinhampton members represented the club and Area 9 at the Inter area Tetrathlon at Bicton over half term. A large number of pony clubs from the south west and Wales took part and great fun was had over the two days of competition – both in the events and at the camping field!
Betsy achieved a personal best in the shoot, swim and run. She and Rupert also had a great ride going clear xc. They were sadly not placed in what was a very large junior girls class. Ollie also achieved a PB in the swim and a sub 6 minute run. He also had a great ride with Khan to be placed 3rd in his class.
Amazing results for both members and a testament to the amount of training they have put in. Special thanks to the Beaufort for sharing their swim training with us and encouraging us at Bicton!

Report from Morag on Beaufort Tetrathlon & Triathlon on 11th & 12th February
Meg and Betsy did the full Tet, both having a good ride and personal bests for shooting with strong run and swim. Meg came 4th and Betsy came 6th. Lucy did the Tri and although not placed had an even stronger shoot than her last competition which is impressive as it’s only the 2nd time she has shot one handed turning targets! She also improved on her run and swim. Sebastian and Henry also did the Tri and both had a really good day. Both boys were strong in all disciplines resulting in Sebastian coming 3rd and Henry 5th. Not bad for a little branch.

Report from Morag on VWH Triathlon Sunday 29th January
Well done to all the children who took part at the VWH Triathlon on Sunday 29th January.  The boys had a really strong day with Sebastian coming first individually and getting the best shoot.  Olli came an impressive third individually and was strong across the three disciplines.  Betsy had a great shoot but due to illness had to retire from the rest of the competition.  Meg did well across the three disciplines with her best shooting score in a competition but unfortunately did not get placed.  Lucy  had a great day, this was her first competition and the very first time she had shot one handed and turning targets with a very impressive score of 640!  She held her own in the swim and the run but unfortunately did not get placed but a brilliant first effort.

congratulations to Ollie and Sebastian and Henry who competed at the CVFH Tri in December.  They all did very well with Ollie coming 5th individually and his mixed team came 2nd. Ollie had his best run and a strong swim.  Sebastian came 4th individually and his team also came 4th.  He had a very strong swim just missing the best swim and a good shoot. Henry came 5th individually  and his team came 6th, he had a good run but unfortunately in his swim he stopped on the warning whistle not the horn which cost him some distance – it’s all a learning curve!  So fantastic results for all three and

well done parents for getting your act together so close to Christmas!!
