RESULTS AND NEWS

Postal Shoot & Triathlon – message from Ella
‘Over half term I will be gathering entries for the Area 9 Postal Shoot. Please let me know if you would be up for having a go at this. Minch usually do well so would be good to keep up our entries and get some new members to have a go, it’s also great practice for anyone wanting to start competing in the next few weeks. Do let me know and I can put some teams together. Also is there any interest for the 14th November Curre Triathon as I will do entries for that too. https://branches.pcuk.org/curre/triathlon-competition-november-2021/
Many thanks, Ella Skelston <islaskelston@gmail.com>

National Postal Shoot

Well Done to the Minch Girls Tet Team (Isla, Esme & Clara) came equal 1st along with Bedale & West of Yore Hunt branch.  Isla and Esme also came equal 1st individually and Clara 24th.

Ledbury Mini Triathlon
HUGE well done to our members who took part in the Ledbury Mini Triathlon this weekend – it was very wet, but they all had a good time with great team spirit, results to follow in next bulletin.

We also have 3 members (Becky, Katie & Tabitha) representing the branch at the Regional Championships next weekend – we wish them the ‘best of luck’ and will report results  in the next bulletin

Area Tetrathlon – Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th July – Report from Ella
Incredibly proud of our Minchinhampton members Isla S, who won the Area 9 Junior Girls Tetrathlon qualifiers, Esme D, who came 4th and Clara S, who came 6th. As a team they came first  and have qualified for the National Championships. Massive congratulations also to Jasper S who came 2nd in his class, Arthur M who came 4th in his Tetrathlon class, Megan D who came 9th in her Tetrathlon class and Olivia D who did brilliantly in her first triathlon. We’ll done for all your hard work!

Winter Postal Shoot Results – report from Sam Hunt
Open to all Pony Club members and their families nationally, the results were very impressive for Minchinhampton Pony Club in the Area 9 Winter Postal Shoot competition. 23 participants shot all their targets and sent them off in good time which was tricky during lockdown. We were represented at every level with rosettes awarded at every level too: special mention to (Tadpole) Anna Mc 2nd, (Mini) Jasper S 1st, (Junior) Esme D 3rd and Isla S 5th, and (Senior) Will R 3rd and Betsy H 5th. All competitors are entered in teams too, and of the 44 entered teams, our Minchinhampton Tornados (Betsy, Esme, Jasper) came 2nd.
Both Esme and Isla had perfect scores (1000 points) on one month earning themselves a coveted gun case sticker.
Of the 11 MPC parents who entered, there were top 10 placings for 4 parents, led by Rob S (4th) and Russ C (7th), and 6 parents shot at least 20 bullseyes across all their targets; it was great that they all leant their support to their children to ensure they could participate during the winter of 2020/2021. Well done everyone, rosettes to follow.

Regional Tetrathlon – Sat 5th & Sun 6th June at Moreton Morrell – report from Ella Skelston

The competition was held at Moreton Morrell College over three days, both Esme D and Isla S had been selected for the Central England team and turned up with significant numbers of butterflies in their stomach having not competed in a full tetrathlon since July 2020!
Esme needn’t have worried though, as she got off to a flying start on the Saturday morning by shooting an incredible 980 (the highest girls score in the competition out of 69 competitors).
Following a walk of the XC course over lunch (which left the mums with butterflies in their stomachs!) the afternoon saw the swim phase with Isla completing a personal best.  Saturday night saw the obligatory Tet party, where the girls met some of the numerous competitors from around the country and had a great time.
Sunday morning was run time.  Both the girls performed brilliantly with Isla having another personal best and finishing in 11th place before the ride and Esme doing a respectable run with sore shin splints! After a quick lunch it was time for the ride around a full up XC course the likes of which neither of the girls had ever experienced before.  It was very technical and there to catch you out! Both girls rode brilliantly but a couple of stops for Isla and one for Esme meant an end result of 23rd and 21st place respectively.  Both were elated, as were the mums for them coming home in one piece!

We are very excited about the area tetrathlon this year and are really hoping the experience will stand them in good stead.   Anyone wanting to take part in Tet please contact Ella Skelston <skelston@googlemail.com> or Sam Hunt <thedrillies@gmail.com>.  It is such good fun and the atmosphere at the competition this weekend was so friendly and inclusive.

Report from Sam on Cotswold Vale Dri-Tri – Sat 17th April

On Saturday 17th April, 3 families headed to Ace Cross Country to compete in the CVFH Dry Tri (no swimming going on for tetrathlon yet). Unusually the run and shoot phases were combined into the Pentathlon discipline of laser shoot with run which was a first for everyone. The cross country was not full height but plenty of turns to fences which was good for a first outing of the 2021 season. Overall results were excellent for teams and individuals: Betsy H 3rd individual Senior Girl, Junior Girls Team 1st (individually Esme D 1st, Isla S 3rd, Clara S 6th) and Jasper S placed 1st Mini Boy. The weather was glorious, the ground perfect and the CVFH stewards were all very welcoming and well organised. If anyone would like to get involved please contact Ella Skelston or Sam Hunt and we’ll let you know about upcoming competitions to come and have a go. Next local Tet is at Gadbury, hosted by the Ledbury on 22nd and 23rd May. The Tet family is very friendly!

Area Triathlon – 4th/5th July – Report from Ella
Minch Pony Club had a good turn out at the Beaufort Triathlon (Riding, shooting and running….no swim) on the weekend of 4th/5th July, a brilliantly run competition held at Oxstalls.   Being the only Area 9 tetrathlon to be held this year it was very well attended with people travelling from as far away as Kent and Cornwall to take part, so competition was stiff.
The Friday saw the shoot phase with some brilliant shooting from Minch. Sophie Burke had a personal best, Jasper and Clara started the following day in the lead in their classes and Esme was in third place.  The running was on Saturday with some amazing efforts from all competitors, considering a bit of a lapse in fitness from most!
The ride phase was on the Sunday with great ground conditions and weather.  Sophie rode really well having just one stop and Jasper having one of only two clear rounds in the arena jumping for the Tadpole class.  Sophie finished 7th and Jasper finished 1st in their respective classes.
Clara, Isla, Esme and Betsy were out in the XC fields for their ride phase and amazingly all had a brilliant day, coming home clear.
Although exhausting, the whole weekend was great fun and rewarding with Esme finishing third and Isla S seventh in the Juniors; Clara coming second in the Minimus class and Betsy 12th in the Intermediate class.
Well done to everyone for taking part.  We would love to hear from you if you would like to have a go at tetrathlon or triathlon (just the swim/run/shoot phase over the winter).  Please contact Sam Hunt or Ella Skelston for more information.

Ledbury Mini Dry-Tri on 15/16 August – Report from Sara
The Ledbury Mini Dry-Tri on 15/16 August was attended by Sophie (Tadpole) plus newcomers Tabitha and Faith (Tadpole and Beanie). All 3 girls worked hard on their run putting in respectable times. Tabitha’s first time shooting in competition was outstanding as was Faith’s achievement at hitting target, putting them both in a strong position for the next day’s ride. Tabitha was up first and jumped clear, followed by Sophie who had a couple of run outs and Faith had a challenging ride but both finished strongly. Deservingly, Tabitha placed 4th and Faith 3rd in their age groups, a fantastic achievement in their first Tetrathlon (Tri).

Congratulations to the MPC Tetrathletes who competed at VWH  Triathlon.

Tadpoles  Jasper and Sophie achieved Team 2nd and Jasper 2nd ind.

Mini Girls   Martha and Clara achieved Tram 3rd and Clara 3rd ind. and best shoot.

Junior Girls  Florie and Isla achieved Team 2nd and Isla won the class ind.

Report from Sam Hunt on the Winter Postal Shoot Competition

An impressive set of results for our members from the Winter Postal Shoot competition run by Area 9.  A special mention for Isla S who achieved a perfect score of 1000 on her January targets.

In the individual competitions:

Senior Girls – Betsy H (4th)   Junior girls – Isla S (1st)   Junior girls – Esme D (2nd)   Mini girls – Clara S (2nd)   Tadpole Boys – Jasper S (4th)

Team: (4th) Esme D, Ellie C, Clara S, Lucy McK   (9th) Isla L, Isla S, Martha McC, Betsy H

There were 127 competitors and 32 teams overall.  Great set of results for our little pony club.

Report from Ella S on Isla’s competition at the National Triathlon Finals
Isla had a really positive time at the National Triathlon Finals against 50 other girls aged between 12 – 15, some of which were extraordinary athletes! Having had a nervous shoot, she achieved a personal best in both her run and her swim meaning we left with no placing but a big smile on our faces!

VWH Tri Report 27th January
There were quite small numbers of competitors in both the Junior and Senior classes this year, so this was a perfect introductory event for Florrie as this was her first Tri and first time shooting at turning targets. Both Florrie and Betsy competed well and brought home ribbons which is a great start to 2019. Betsy was very encouraging and shared lots of competition tips to help Florrie. It is great to see another family having a go at this fun and challenging activity.

National Tetrathlon Championships 9-12 August 2018 at Offchurch Bury
Following her performance at the Area 9 Tet qualifier Betsy was offered a wildcard (thanks to the Beaufort Hunt Tetrathlon Manager, Alex Connors) to the Tet Champs. Betsy trained hard for all 4 disciplines and was thrilled to achieve a pb in both the swim and the run phases. The xc course was the biggest and most technical Rupert had ever seen, but Betsy made good decisions throughout the ride and they completed safely. The atmosphere of the whole event was brilliant: friendly, supportive, competitive and we were lucky with the weather. It was simply inspiring to be there – and it would be even better if MPC could take a team or two next year! We need everyone interested to sign up and have a go, so we can improve training opportunities which will encourage more participation and success…
