This is a team, interbranch (within Area 8), one day event, organised by PWPC.

It was the brainchild of Fred Allen, who farmed Chesfield Park and Manor Farm near Stevenage and was a great supporter of the hunt and the Pony Club. In 1968 the well-known Area 8 competition, The Gosling Cup, was not held, so Mr Allen decided to put on a similar competition around the cross country course in the park, already host to Graveley Horse Trials. Mr and Mrs Calvert, whose children were then members of the PWPC, agreed to donate the Challenge Cup.

When the Pony Club Area Competitions were held in August, the Cavert Cup was often used as a team selection trial and warm up for competing branches. Many of the current and past names of eventing have competed in the competition and some famous names are etched on the sides of the trophies.

Today, Calvert Cup usually takes place towards the end of June at Luffenhall, near Walkern. It remains a popular and prestigious event within the Area 8 calendar, with teams competing over the 80, 90 and 100cm courses.

Puckeridge Western were crowned Calvert Cup winners in 2022.
