The Equestrian Youth Organisation

Welcome to our Branch of The Pony Club. We have Members from the age of 4-25, who participate in a variety of activities, from Rallies, Competitions, Tests and Camp. The Pony Club is a unique youth equestrian organisation, providing the opportunity to participate in 9 different sports. At our Branch we focus on Dressage, Showjumping, Eventing, Polocrosse, Mounted Games, Polo, Pony Racing, Tetrathlon and Endurance.

The Pony Club has been the starting point for a large majority of equestrian team members, equine professionals, and medal winners. Training is at the heart of The Pony Club, providing opportunities to build knowledge on improving equine welfare, rider safety and enabling Members to develop lifelong skills, alongside riding, and having fun!

We welcome you to have a look around this website to find out more about us. Visit our Contact Us page to get in touch with any questions you may have. We are a fun and friendly Branch, and we are looking forward to welcoming you.

It all began way back in 1930 on August 5th when the first committee meeting was held.  The roots of our beginnings lay firmly with the military, the hunt and the farmers.  The influence of the army officers at The Equitation School in Weedon continued through the early years.  The branch activities and competitions have changed very little, Hunter Trials were put on as opposed to One Day Events through the 1950s and 1960s.  The very first Pytchley Hunt branch camp was held in 1953 in the grounds of Holdenby House.  Even then 60 members aged 6 to 17 attended arriving at 9.00 am and leaving at 6.00 pm, they must have been exhausted to say nothing of the instructors!  By the end of the 1950s the membership numbered 130, which included 46 boys – not that different from today.  Captain John Macdonald-Buchanan led the branch into the 1960s.  The members began selling race cards at the Pytchley point-to-point in 1964 and continue to do so now – 40 or so years on!  Some of our cups and awards were first presented in 1963 – The Watson Cup and The Robinson Cup amongst them.
