Quiz Area Rounds 2026
The rounds below are for the 2026 Area quiz will be out of the list below:
MINI SECTION
Questions will be based on the Care and Riding sections of the E, D and D+ Pony Club Tests and Mini Horsemanship Achievement Badges.
QUESTION ROUNDS
A paper of questions with multiple choice answers.
• The Pony Club: Questions based on Structure, Governance, History, Competitions, Tests and Badges.
• How Ponies Learn: Questions based on the content of the Pony Club publication How Ponies Learn
ACTIVITY GAMES
• Charades: One team member to act out a word or phrase without using words, which must be guessed by the rest of the team. Each team member to take turns being the actor. Words will be taken from the syllabuses of the appropriate levels, this is considered Horsemanship general knowledge
• Audio/Visual: Video clips shown then questions asked about the content. Videos used will be the Blue Cross videos on the Pony Club YouTube channel.
WORD GAMES
• Fill The Gap: Statements with blanks, team members fill the blanks with words from a given list. Grooming and tack cleaning.
• Alphabet Soup: Team members guess the word based on the letters of the alphabet and a clue. The words and clues will be taken from the appropriate levels syllabuses, this is considered Horsemanship general knowledge.
IDENTIFICATION ROUNDS
• Points of the Pony: Image of pony with spaces to fill in the points, a numbered list will be available to select from
• Odd One Out: Members select the answer they think is the odd one out, different subjects will be covered taken from the Blue Cross Badges.
Each Area must as a minimum do one question round (must be The Pony Club), one Activity Games and one of each Word Games and ID Rounds. Then pick any additional rounds from any remaining from the list above. One of the ID rounds to be played as individual round. Areas need to do a minimum of 6 rounds but more can be used if required.
JUNIOR/SENIOR SECTION
Questions to be based on the Care and Riding sections of the C, C+ and B Pony Club Tests, and Achievement Badges.

• Social Licence: Questions based on syllabuses of the social license badges and relevant areas of the tests.
• Turnout of Horse & Rider and Correctly Fitting Tack: Questions on the correct
attire for Pony Club activities and correctly fitting tack and equipment, both for PC rallies and competitions across all sports

• Alphabet Soup: Team members guess the word based on the letters of the alphabet and a clue. The words and clues will be taken from the appropriate levels syllabuses, this is considered Horsemanship general knowledge.
IDENTIFICATION ROUNDS
• Conformation: Photos/images of conformation, both good conformation and faults to be identified.
• Show and Cross-Country Jump Identification: Photos of both show jumps and cross-country jumps need to be identified, a list of possible names will be given, the photo and name need to be paired up.
• Pelmanism Memory: 20 pairs of items, a photo and a description, each printed onto a small card, laid out face down and the team must turn two cards over on each turn and pair up the item photo card with their description card. All items taken from the Blue Cross Badges.
Each Area must pick a minimum of one round from each category (The Pony Club must be included). Then pick any additional rounds from any remaining on the list. One of the ID rounds to be played as individual round. Areas need to do a minimum

The Dengie Pony Club National Quiz
The Pony Club Quiz is open to all members.
• Mini Section– Teams of four- Ages to be 10 years and under on the 1st of January of competition year, with one member to be 8 years and under.
• Junior/Senior Section– Teams of four- must have two junior members (ages to be 14 years and under) and then two of any age up to 25.
The Pony Club Quiz has lots of fun elements to it. Whilst it does test pony knowledge it also challenges team work and observation skills, so there is something for everyone. The Quiz is not a usual quiz format but has lots of games and activities which will get the competitors thinking outside the box.
Last year the Rockwood Harriers took two mini teams, one junior/senior and Sylvia Fagg also represented the branch in the area senior team. We had a fantastic time and lots of fun at the area comp and the junior/senior team qualified for the championships. This was quite an experience and built up so much enthusiasm that the Rockwood Harriers are hosting this years area Quiz competition.

The Pony Club quiz is an inclusive competition for all members. It provides a chance for members to test their equestrian knowledge in a fun and friendly team environment.The competition comprises of a Mini and Junior/Senior competition .Mini Section– Teams of four- Ages to be 10 years and under on the 1st of January of competition year, with one member to be 8 years and under. Junior/Senior Section– Teams of four- must have two junior members ( ages to be 13 years and under ) and then two of any age up to 25.
