Getting Started

South Notts Pony club is all about friendship and there is no better time to start making lifelong friends than now! We also pride ourselves on letting our kids just enjoy being with their ponies, learning how to look after them, and discovering all the activities that are possible through the Pony Club.
Each month, there is a Munchkins rally for lead rein to jumping up to 40 cm, and a hot chocolate rally for those cantering confidently off the lead rein and jumping 40-80 cm, plus any child is very welcome at almost all of our rallies, be it flatwork, poles, games and the jumping sessions (jumping height is specified)

Year Round activities

In the winter there are pony care competitions and inter branch quizzes, we always need younger members for these teams.  Members learn about pony care through pizza and pony care evenings held during the autumn. These sessions also prepare our members for the pony club tests.  The younger members thoroughly enjoy badges, there are literally dozens, and gold badges go to those who have achieved a great number.
During the summer, we hold “Friday fun” rallies at Arkenfield Equestrian centre, where we ride then a barbecue for all the family.  We also run a fabulous picnic ride at the end of the summer, which is suitable for those on and off the Lead rein, plus there are team competitions with mini classes for games, showjumping, dressage and tetrathlon.
Pony club camp was the highlight of my summer holiday many years ago and I’m pleased to say it is still the highlight for many children. We run a non residential camp for the tiny tots, older children can join the main 4 day camp.
We hope this helps you to understand a little more about how your “little one” can get the most out of Pony Club.  Do come along to watch a rally so that you get an idea of what goes on.  We really look forward to seeing you soon, and watching your child growing up with the South Notts family.

South Notts kit

Items can be ordered from JS Teamwear’s website www.jsteamwear.co.uk, or call into their unit at Winkburn if you need to check sizes or want to browse the collection. Please call beforehand on 01636 636294 for an appointment.  After school and Saturday morning times can be accommodated with prior arrangement.

Names can be embroidered on many items but this makes it much harder to sell them when outgrown!  If you look JS Teamwear’s website you will see a message from the DC advising what to get if you are new to South Notts – there are often bundles available so that you can buy the basic items easily.   Second hand items are advertised on the South Notts Members’ Facebook Group.

Our hat silks – worn by those competing cross country and pictured – are available here
