Woodland Hunt are keen for as many active members as possible to nominate themselves to be considered for Team selection across all the Pony Club disciplines. In line with the Pony Club handbook and the Guidance for Team Selection, in order to be eligible for consideration of Team selection a member must:
- Demonstrate that they are confident/capable and safe to ride at the level that they wish to compete at in their chosen discipline(s)
- Demonstrate a commitment to the Branch by attending the minimum ridden sessions detailed below
- Have an adult available to volunteer at Branch events
- Ensure that they are available for both the qualifying competitions and the Championships events (if applicable)
- Show a proven track record at the level that they wish to compete at (see MER Competition Record)
In order to help members we have put together a substantial selection of qualifying ridden sessions throughout the year to enable them to reach their Branch eligibility ahead of Team Competitions.
From 1st September the previous year, the rider/pony combination must have completed three of the following to be eligible to be considered for Team selection in their chosen disciplines.
- Any WHPC Ridden Rally
- Any WHPC Ridden Pony Club Test Training Session
- Any WHPC or Area Discipline Specific Training Sessions
This helps demonstrate that members are active participants within the branch.
We recognise that some members compete more than one pony. Where a member wishes to compete on multiple ponies, the following applies:
- The first pony requires three ridden sessions
- Each additional pony requires two ridden sessions
Examples:
- If a member has two ponies:
- 3 ridden sessions on Pony A
- 2 ridden sessions on Pony B
- If a member has three ponies:
- 3 ridden sessions on Pony A
- 2 ridden sessions on Pony B
- 2 ridden sessions on Pony C
Exception – Mounted Games (Juniors, Seniors and Pairs)
From 1st September the previous year, to meet the branch MER for Mounted Games, members must:
- Attend three WHPC Mounted Games team training sessions on the Mounted Games rider/pony combination (team training = at least two members at the session)
Tetrathlon – Minimus, Junior, Intermediate and Open
In addition to completing three ridden sessions on the rider/pony combination, members must also:
- Attend at least one shooting training session
- The session must be attended by the rider and parent/guardian
- Completed during the current season, from 1st September the previous year
