Dear Members,                                                                                                                                                        November 2019

As I am sure you are all only too aware, the endless rain has caused a lot of events to be cancelled – not the least of which was the Branch Pleasure Ride – the first time in 17 years! This was very disappointing to all concerned, as we give a large donation to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as well as being one of the main fundraisers for the Branch in the year.

Yet again, the showjumpers in the Branch performed well – this time the younger members who had qualified for the Junior Series final at Bishop Burton at half term. Everyone rode very well at each level – in particular in the 60cms final, our team of Scarlett Hardcastle-Nice, Sophia Elliott, Zac Farnsworth and Harriet Jacklin won, with Harriet finishing 5th individually and Sophia 6th, and in the 80cms the team of Hannah Jones, Emily Jones, Sophia Elliott, Noah Marsh hung on to the lead until the very end, when they were just beaten by the Glaisdale. Well done to all who took part!

We had a really good rally at half term at Port Royal, which was the prize for gaining the most show jumping points at Port Royal last winter. Some amazing Hallowe’en costumes were on show and there were rosettes, carrots and smarties for all, kindly provided by GBP Skips and Waste Ltd/ Jayne and Steve Elliott. At the moment, after the show jumping competitions in October and November, the Branch are in the lead – well done and do keep it up!

After popular demand, we are returning to the ice skating and pizza evening for the Branch Awards Night. This is not just for those who will be awarded rosettes but for all Members whether you have only been to one event in the year or to everything on offer! Trophies and rosettes are given for attendance in 2019 in three age groups, as well as junior/senior turnout, team awards and a number of special trophies throughout all age groups. Please can award winners from 4 Jan 2019 make sure they have handed any trophies (having had them engraved for 2018) to a Committee member beforehand if they are not able to bring them on the night – a reminder of who had trophies for 2018 – Attendance: Sophie Gittus, Holly Middlemiss, Phoebe Smith, Lucy Jones, Holly Burn, Holly Clayden, Charlie Olsson. Show Jumping: Junior Team, Novice Team, Intermediate Team, Highest placed YAS team (tray) plus Charlotte Bumby, Holly Clayden, Maddy Brown, Loren Barnes.
