Games Practises are held on a regular basis from Mid January to end of August.  We stay indoors until the ground is suitable.

If you are 14 years old and under on 1 January you are eligible to complete in senior games competitions during the year.  If you are 10 years old and under on 1 January you will be a junior mounted games member.  Ponies must be under 14.2hh.

There are many rules attached to Mounted Games and your are advised to purchase a rule book which can be ordered from Amazon. Here’s a link to the rules RULEBOOK-Mounted-Games-2026-Web.pdf

Anyone can come to the winter practices, but if you are not keen to be selected for a team you must let the Games Trainer know.  Riders putting themselves forward for selection should attend all practices; listen to what is said to them by their trainers and be prepared to take training seriously – that does not mean it can’t also be fun!!

Types of Competitions

FRIENDLIES – These are like warm up competitions and prepare you for the qualifiers.

AREA – Our Branch Angus is in Area 1 of the PC.

There are 22 other branches in our Area and these are the teams  that you will meet at the Area 1 Mounted Games Qualifier.

ZONE– The Zone is the qualifier for The Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) and the Pony Club Championships.  This is where we will meet and compete against all of the other teams that qualified from the Area Competition.  This is a much harder competition to win.

The Pony Club Championships

In Juniors this is the ultimate competition and the team who wins here are the Junior Mounted Games Champions.

In Seniors this is also very important as it is the runners up competition from the Zones and the last chance to win the remaining one space for HOYS.
