The Pony Club and Medi-K Training launch specialist Paediatric First Aid course

Dear all,
Keeping Members and Volunteers safe is of paramount importance for The Pony Club. We are therefore delighted to launch a specialist first aid course with Medi-K Training specifically designed for the treatment of children. This is a unique course and has not before been offered by an equestrian organisation.
There are a surprising number of differences in how to treat a child or an infant requiring first aid compared to an adult, and when something happens that threatens or hurts a child having expert knowledge to draw on can make a huge difference.
We have teamed up with Medi-K Training; a rider based first aid Company, to deliver this course from 1st April 2018.  Medi-K Training is the leading prvider of nationally recognised qualifications for rider first aid training and is a high quality, dynamic training organisation with an outstanding reputation throughout the Equine Industry.
The extra training will not only provide an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification but also a nationally regulated OFQUAL level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid where you will learn how to be able to manage an ill/injured child in the event of an emergency. It consists of a range of subjects including; fractures, shock, concussion, dealing with foreign bodies and various medical conditions such as recognising the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and much more.
In 2018 the course will be optional to all volunteers. It can be done as either a 2 day stand alone course – or can be added on as a 1 day course to the 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course. If completed within 6 weeks, this will then be offered at a discounted cost throughout 2018
and each day can be done within 6 weeks on a date to suit your group or centre.  The qualification will last 3 years and thereafter you would only need to do your EFAW course which you do at present and the second day Medi-K can offer either face to face or online. The extra training provides an EFAW qualification and a nationally regulated OFQUAL level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid.
For more information please get in touch with Clare Gabriel, our Health and Safety Officer, using safety@pcuk.org or 07968 959416.
Our partners, Medi-K Training will be arranging and administering all the course bookings, to enquire about organising a course please contact kay@medi-k.co.uk or 01299 407097.

As you are aware, technology and the use of social media is becoming more prevalent in the day to day lives of young people. Whether they access the internet via laptops, ipads or their smartphones, we all have a responsibility to ensure they have a safe and fun experience in how young people communicate with each other and how we all communicate out.

With this in mind, we have updated the e-safety guidance which are available via the links below. The guidance is divided into three documents depending on the audience they are aimed at. These are as follows:

  • Young people – to provide pointers on how to keep themselves safe online

E Safety Guidelines for Young People – July 2017

  • Parents and guardians – to provide information about what they need to know and how they can keep their child safe online.

E Safety Guidance for Parents & Guardians – updated July 2017

  • Officials, employees and volunteers – to provide information about how to safely communicate with Members, parents / guardians and other officials and volunteers.

E Safety Guidance for Officials Employees & Volunteers – updated July 2017

  • There are also some helpful links and information available on each of the documents.

Kind regards

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Hello,

Firstly can I say hello.  I am the new Pony Club H&S Officer based in the office 2 days – usually Weds/Thurs –  a week (all contact details below)…..Bill has finally retired – but he’s very happily in the background as I settle in….

We have recently been made aware that a number of branches either own land that they put XC courses on, or they are ‘loaned’ (in various guises)land  that they put cross country courses on.

This is an area that we need to clarify with our insurers re the insurance position, but also to ensure we have adequate health and safety procedures in place with regards to risk assessments, fence safety, first aid cover etc

Could I please ask you to email me the details of any branches in your areas that may have such facilities – along with the details of their facilities – such as address/land owner/contact details?

Also if you have any H&S queries then please do not hesitate to give me a call/email.

With kind regards
