The Pony Club is built around nine different sports, and at Fylde & District our members take part in a wide range of them through our rallies, training and competitions. Click any sport below to find out more.
Dressage
Often described as ‘horse dancing’, dressage is all about the partnership between horse and rider. It involves performing a series of movements with accuracy, balance and harmony, and it builds the flatwork skills that underpin every other discipline. We hold regular flatwork training and dressage competitions.
Show jumping tests a horse and rider’s ability to jump a course of colourful fences cleanly and within the time allowed. It is fast, exciting and a brilliant way to build confidence and accuracy over fences.
Eventing combines three phases into one competition: dressage, show jumping and cross country. Cross country is the thrilling ride across a course of solid, natural obstacles. For everyone’s safety, a body protector is compulsory for all cross country riding.
Mounted games are fast, fun, team-based races and relays played on ponies. They build quick thinking, balance, teamwork and confidence, and are hugely popular with our younger members.
Tetrathlon is an exciting multi-sport challenge that combines four disciplines: riding, running, swimming and shooting. It is a great all-round test of fitness, skill and determination.
Sometimes called ‘hockey on horseback’, polo is an exciting team game played with a mallet and ball. We run polo days that give members the chance to try this fast-paced sport.
