Joining the HH

Below is the New Member’s application form which has all the joining details you need and where to send it.

Ties, badges and the Manual of Horsemanship are all available from Pony Club HQ, but we do have medical armbands, the cost of which is £5.00.  If you would like me to send one, please add this amount to your cheque including a note to let me know you are ordering one and I will send it out a the same time.

2019 Membership

There is a temporary membership form for 2019 below. A new version will be available in time for the renewal and must be completed by 31st January 2019 if you are looking to compete in February this year and by 28th February if you are competing throughout 2019, or you will lose your eligibility to compete.

Area competition eligibility

If you think you want to take part in any of the major competitions over the summer and autumn – Area Qualifiers, Southern Novice or Mini Champs, there are a few rules that apply as below.  Please make sure you adhere to them or you may find you cannot compete at your chosen event. Further rules apply in terms of age and jumping height for the Mini Champs:

– you must be an active member of the branch and renewed before the cut off point – 28th February 2019 – unless entirely new to the Pony Club in which case you will still be eligible if you join before 31st March 2019.

– you and your pony must have attended at least 3 working rallies between 1st July 2018 and the date of the competition (camp attendance counts as one rally), one of which must be in the current year

– for those that are working, the DC has discretion on rally attendance

– Mini Champs: riders must be 12 or younger on 1st January and must not have jumped 90cms in the first round of any competition. Ponies must be 14.2hh and under.

Changes to Gift Aid

HMRC announced a change in its permitted gift aid declaration wording, which took effect from the 6th of April 2016. This change is intended to try and make it clearer to people signing gift aid declarations what they are agreeing to and also that HMRC can now ask the individual donor to pay additional tax if charitable organisations reclaim more in gift aid in the year than the individual has actually paid in income or capital gains tax.

Any gift aid declaration signed after the 6th of April 2016 must use the new wording or they will not be accepted by HMRC. The new wording can also be adopted early and used before the 6th of April. With this in mind, the new gift aid declaration wording has already been put on the template membership forms available on both The Pony Club membership database and The Pony Club website.

For reference, the new gift aid declaration wording is as follows:

Boost your donation by 25p of Gift Aid for every £1 you donate. Gift Aid is reclaimed by The Pony Club from the tax you pay for the current tax year. Your address is needed to identify you as a current UK taxpayer.

I (Name and address of donor) want to Gift Aid my donation of £………* to The Pony Club (Charity No 1050146). I am a UK taxpayer and understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in the current tax year than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations it is my responsibility to pay any difference. *Enter the total amount of your donation, e.g. £72, £144, £180, or such donation that you have given.

(Signed by donor, date, name of member, name of branch)

Please notify The Pony Club if you want to cancel this declaration, change your name or home address or no longer pay sufficient tax on your income and/or capital gains. If you pay Income Tax at the higher or additional rate and want to receive the additional tax relief due to you, you must include all your Gift Aid donations on your Self-Assessment tax return or ask HM Revenue and Customs to adjust your tax code.

The membership form has a Gift Aid slip at the bottom and it makes a huge difference to both the Pony Club and the HH if members can fill it out.  With it the Pony Club can claim 25% of the membership fee from the Government and the Branch gets to keep up to £25 of each family’s joining fees.  Without both lose out.  There are just a few points that are really important to ensure Gift Aid can be collected on your behalf. If any of these are missing, the form will be destroyed by HQ and we cannot claim.  In 2016 we missed out on nearly £300 of funds due to incorrectly completed forms.

1. The amount that is being Gift Aided is just the membership fee (£74 in 2018, but may change in 2019).  Please do not add anything to this as we cannot claim for it

2. Make sure that all the form is filled in with your name, your address, your child’s name(s) and the Branch.  If you don’t we have to or the form will not be accepted as only the GA slip is sent to HQ, not the whole membership form

3. Make sure the form is dated

4. The form must be signed by the SAME person that signs the cheque! If only one parent is a tax payer, please can they fill the form in.
