As it’s Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Year we thought it would be lovely to highlight our Meynell Members meeting her at Eland Lodge. Apparently, Her Majesty was asked if there was anything she would particularly like to do when she visited The Duchy Estate and she expressed a wish to meet local Pony Club Members.
MEYNELL PONY CLUB MEMBERS RIDE FOR THE QUEEN at Eland Lodge Equestrian Centre
On Thursday 25th May, Her Majesty The Queen visited Eland Lodge Equestrian Centre to see the exceptional facilities in action. The private visit was conducted within the Needwood Survey which is part of the Duchy of Lancaster Estate owned by Her Majesty as the Duke of Lancaster.
Once arrived, Her Majesty proceeded to the Royal Viewing Platform. Among those presented to the Queen were John and Veronica Coupland of Eland Lodge.
From the viewing platform, The Queen enjoyed the view of the 65 acre XC course and watched a small team of riders tackling a number of fences and combinations, including the Newborough Leap, Dubarry Water Complex, the Dew Pond, Broken Bridge and the Log Stacks.
Riding the Course were Sally Ann Turkington and Izzy Mead from the Meynell and India Edwards and Josie Coupland from South Staffs. Once the course was completed the riders were presented to the Queen.
Izzy Mead said,”I was really nervous but so excited to ride for the Queen. The horses were brilliant and I’m really proud of my horse Cracker, it was an amazing experience to meet the Queen”.
The riders did a fantastic job representing us and we are sure it will be something they will always rememb
