Mounted Games

PPC Mounted Games involve teams of 4 or 5 riders competing in a series of relay-type races, moving equipment such as boxes, balls, flags, coins, letters, grooming kit and socks, while bending round poles, cones, tables, over stepping stones and through tyres, and getting on and off their ponies – sometimes at great speed!

The competition was conceived by HRH Prince Philip in 1957 and is based on Cavalry skills and techniques, and designed to be entertaining, visually engaging and enhance rider skills and teamwork. Only plain tack is allowed, such as snaffle bits and no whips or spurs.

The NHHPC provide year round weekday and weekend training for every age and ability, and encourage as many members as possible to join in the fun sessions to whatever level they wish.

In 2022 our Senior Squad worked tirelessly with their trainer Iain Hopkins and his assistant son Sam. Successful at regional competitions all over the country they also won at Royal Bath & West, Areas and Zones.

They then went on to compete as one of the top six teams in the country at the NEC stadium – the Arena Of Dreams!

They were crowned winners of the Naylors Cup and the prestigious Prince Phillip Cup at Horse Of The Year Show.

Well done Codie, Ed, Jas, Heidi, Scarlett & Lottie – this is one of the biggest achievements in the history of the Branch!

In 2022 Senior Squad member Heidi was picked to represent England at Royal Windsor Show.
In October 2017 the North Hereford team of Georgia, Charlotte, Lottie, Otty, Sophie and Jennifer made branch history by qualifying for the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS).

Trained by Ed Chamberlain they competed for The Prince Philip Cup, as one of the top 6 teams in the country, out of 250 teams!
