The Pony Club Test structure is a pathway that encourages members to learn progressively. Each test covers riding and horse care, to help riders develop their skills and learn how to care for their horses. When you pass a test you are awarded a certificate and a coloured, circular felt which sits behind your Pony Club badge.
Progressive Tests allow Members to work towards Tests in between Efficiency Test levels E and C+. There are four levels of Progressive Tests; Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
E Test: Pony Club Recommended Minimum Age: 4
Usually taken during Junior Camp
D Test: Pony Club Recommended Minimum Age: 8
Usually taken during Junior Camp
D+ Test: Pony Club Recommended Minimum Age: 10
Before being awarded the ‘C’ Test Certificate, Candidates must have train for and passed The Pony Club’s Road Rider Achievement Badge or The Pony Club Road Rider Test or the BHSRide Safe test.
C Test: Pony Club Recommended Minimum Age: 11
This test can be taken/passed in 2 parts ~ H&P Care Test and Ridden Test.
C+ Test: Pony Club Minimum Age: 13
This test can be taken/passed in 2 parts ~ H&P Care Test and Ridden Test.
Before taking the B Test candidates must have passed their ‘C+’ Test and The Pony Club Road Rider Test or the BHS Riding & Road Safety Test. This test is co-ordinated by the DC at Area.
B Test: Recommended Minimum Age: 15. Only those 14 years or over are eligible for B Test
This test may be taken as a whole or in 2 parts ~ H&P Care Test and Ridden Test

Lunge Test: Minimum Age: 16
This test is arranged via the DC at Area . Before taking the Lungeing Test, Candidates must have passed the B Test or B Standard Horse & Pony Care.
AH Test: Recommended Minimum Age: 17. Only those 16 years or over are eligible for AH Test
The Pony Club A Test is the highest Test within The Pony Club structure. It is recognised world wide and is very much sought after! The AH Test is the Stable Management phase of the A Test. Those who have passed B (horse & pony care) Test only and have been recommended after an assessment by an AH examiner can also take the Test.
B+ Test: Minimum Age: 16
The Test is a non-compulsory riding test taken after the Lungeing Test and either before or after AH. It is a ‘stepping stone’ between B (full test) and A Test.
A Test: Minimum Age: 18
The Pony Club A Test is the highest Test within The Pony Club structure. It is recognised worldwide and is very much sought after.
Nominations must be made to The Pony Club Office on the official form having first been sanctioned by the District Commissioner and Area Representative.
The Introduction to Pony Club Coaching courses are designed as a pathway for Pony Club members to begin coaching, by ensuring that they have the necessary skills and support in place. They also offer an opportunity for more experienced coaches to refresh themselves, and check that they are in line with best practice.
