DC’S Newsletter 7th January 2021

I hope that everyone enjoyed Christmas despite the restrictions placed on us all. We were so sad to have had to cancel our Christmas activities, particularly the Woolly Pony Party, as this is an annual highlight for us as well as the children! We hope to rearrange this as an Easter not-so-woolly Pony Party – maybe an Easter Bunny in place of Father Christmas?!!

As you will have gathered from Monday’s Government Announcement and the subsequent Pony Club email, all face-to-face Pony Club activities are currently cancelled. We had a Zoom Committee meeting last night and we will let you know shortly our plans for online activities and for our provisional programme for the rest of the year.

And a number of our members created an OS&B Loo Roll Challenge Video which was brilliant fun! This can still be found on our facebook pages if you haven’t seen it.

We have both a public facebook page and a private group for members and past members. You can apply to join the private Group by contacting the administrator, Nicky Cole, on ncole246@btinternet.com

NATIONAL PONY CLUB QUIZ:

We sent a team (Charlotte Vickery, Caspar Sumner & Evie Hadley) to the Area Quiz in February 2020 and came a very respectable 3rd . This year the Area Quiz will take place by Zoom on Friday 19th February and we would really like to enter an OS&B Team(s).

Suzie and Charlotte Vickery are very kindly organising an OS&B Zoom Family Quiz on Friday 15th January starting at 6.30pm which will follow the same format with the same topics so it’s a good chance to have some fun and see what it’s all about. A separate email will be sent out shortly with the details.

PONY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2021:

This year the PC110 Eventing Championships will be held at Gatcombe Park on the 5th/6th August as part of the Festival of British Eventing, with prizes presented by Princess Anne. This is an exciting opportunity for our older members and you can either qualify through our Area Eventing competition at Brightling on the 26th/27th June or through the BE route.

The main PC Championships this year take place at Offchurch Bury which is near Leamington Spa and is a much more attractive proposition for us than the usual long trek up to Cheshire!

Polocrosse, Mounted Games and Tetrathlon are on the 13th – 15th August and Dressage, Eventing, Show Jumping & Polo are on the 17th – 22nd August.

VIRTUAL SJ COURSE WALKING FOR COMPETITORS:

For our members aged 12 years and over, I can strongly recommend the virtual on-line course “SJ Course walking for competitors” on Saturday 23rd January at 5.30pm with Senior BS Course Designer Krissy Spiller and BS Coach Maria Green.

Book in by emailing Abby Bernard (our Area Rep) on area11@pcuk.org

VOLUNTEER CHANGES:

Margaret Allday has decided that she would like to reduce her Tetrathlon workload so Melissa Beatty has kindly taken on the role of Tetrathlon Team Manager. Margaret will continue to organise the shooting and swimming training.

We are also very grateful to parent Beverley Webber who has kindly taken on the DBS checks and admin from Suzie.

ZOE DAVISON: Finally, on a sad note, some of you may have seen that local racehorse trainer Zoe Davison died on Sunday after a long battle with cancer.

Zoe has kindly allowed us to use her gallops at Shovelstrode and her husband, Andy Irvine, is known to most of you as the provider of wonderful food at our Junior Camp and our thoughts are with him and the whole family and staff.

There is a Justgiving page in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund should any of you wish to donate – we have sent a card and a donation from the OS&B PC. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/zoecdavison
