Bisley Dry Triathlon – 18th April

Successful day for all OS&B competitors at the Bisley Pony Club Dry Tri. Lots of first timers and lots of learning involved, but a wonderful day in the sunshine.

George Stenhouse 5th individually in a very large Tadpole section. Flora lower down the rankings in the Beanie section, but super effort.

Junior girls team 3rd overall. Individual placings for all girls Ruby Wickens 9th, Megan Sheridan 11th, Gracie Beatty overall winner, with fastest run and best shoot.

Well done to all and thank you for flying the OS&B Flag so well!!

OS&B Virtual Prizegiving & Parents Meeting – 5th February 2021

Virtual Prizegiving for 2020 and Parents’ Meeting

Friday 5th February 2021 6.30pm to 7.30pm

By Zoom (link will be sent out the day before)

Join the OS&B Committee for a short prizegiving video to celebrate our members’ achievements in 2020.

This will be followed by a short Parents’ meeting; your opportunity to ask us anything about how The Pony Club works and our plans for 2021.

There will also be a presentation of our financial accounts for 2020 by our Treasurer Sheila.

Members who have joined us in the last year are very welcome.

Hope to see you then!

Caroline Matthews & the OS&B Committee

DC’S Newsletter 7th January 2021

I hope that everyone enjoyed Christmas despite the restrictions placed on us all. We were so sad to have had to cancel our Christmas activities, particularly the Woolly Pony Party, as this is an annual highlight for us as well as the children! We hope to rearrange this as an Easter not-so-woolly Pony Party – maybe an Easter Bunny in place of Father Christmas?!!

As you will have gathered from Monday’s Government Announcement and the subsequent Pony Club email, all face-to-face Pony Club activities are currently cancelled. We had a Zoom Committee meeting last night and we will let you know shortly our plans for online activities and for our provisional programme for the rest of the year.

Despite the pandemic we have had quite a busy year and managed to run:
58 Rallies
2 non-residential camps
12 shooting training sessions
9 swimming training sessions
An introduction to hunting day
1 Tetrathlon competition
2 Dressage Shows
1 Photography competition
A virtual hobby-horse one day event
2 courses of Zoom-based C Test Training
1 course of C+ Test Training
1 Test day

Our members have achieved:
1 A Test Full
1 AH Test partial
2 Lunge Tests
1 B Test Full
5 C+ Tests Full
2 C Tests Full
3 C Tests Horse & Pony Care
3 D+ Tests
6 D Tests
10 E Tests
84 Large Achievement Badges
60 Mini Achievement Badges

And a number of our members created an OS&B Loo Roll Challenge Video which was brilliant fun! This can still be found on our facebook pages if you haven’t seen it.

We have both a public facebook page and a private group for members and past members. You can apply to join the private Group by contacting the administrator, Nicky Cole, on

We sent a team (Charlotte Vickery, Caspar Sumner & Evie Hadley) to the Area Quiz in February 2020 and came a very respectable 3rd . This year the Area Quiz will take place by Zoom on Friday 19th February and we would really like to enter an OS&B Team(s).

Suzie and Charlotte Vickery are very kindly organising an OS&B Zoom Family Quiz on Friday 15th January starting at 6.30pm which will follow the same format with the same topics so it’s a good chance to have some fun and see what it’s all about. A separate email will be sent out shortly with the details.

This year the PC110 Eventing Championships will be held at Gatcombe Park on the 5th/6th August as part of the Festival of British Eventing, with prizes presented by Princess Anne. This is an exciting opportunity for our older members and you can either qualify through our Area Eventing competition at Brightling on the 26th/27th June or through the BE route.

The main PC Championships this year take place at Offchurch Bury which is near Leamington Spa and is a much more attractive proposition for us than the usual long trek up to Cheshire!

Polocrosse, Mounted Games and Tetrathlon are on the 13th – 15th August and Dressage, Eventing, Show Jumping & Polo are on the 17th – 22nd August.

For our members aged 12 years and over, I can strongly recommend the virtual on-line course “SJ Course walking for competitors” on Saturday 23rd January at 5.30pm with Senior BS Course Designer Krissy Spiller and BS Coach Maria Green.

Book in by emailing Abby Bernard (our Area Rep) on

Margaret Allday has decided that she would like to reduce her Tetrathlon workload so Melissa Beatty has kindly taken on the role of Tetrathlon Team Manager. Margaret will continue to organise the shooting and swimming training.

We are also very grateful to parent Beverley Webber who has kindly taken on the DBS checks and admin from Suzie.

ZOE DAVISON: Finally, on a sad note, some of you may have seen that local racehorse trainer Zoe Davison died on Sunday after a long battle with cancer.

Zoe has kindly allowed us to use her gallops at Shovelstrode and her husband, Andy Irvine, is known to most of you as the provider of wonderful food at our Junior Camp and our thoughts are with him and the whole family and staff.

There is a Justgiving page in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund should any of you wish to donate – we have sent a card and a donation from the OS&B PC.

With my very best wishes,

Huge congratulations to OS&B member, Harriet Gillam, who has just passed her A Test. The A Test is the highest award of The Pony Club, and provides a comprehensive assessment of Horsemanship and Training of Young Horses.

Harriet, who is now 21, has been a very active member of our Branch since she was 6 and over the years has competed to a very high standard in mounted games, dressage, show jumping and eventing, representing our Branch on numerous occasions. She has worked incredibly hard for this and we are very proud of her!

OS&B #StayHome Photo Competition

Send us your best lockdown moments for a chance to WIN Spidge Photo Vouchers

Now into our fourth week, the extended lockdown and stay at home advice presents us with challenges, but also a myriad of opportunities.

Have you found new and exciting ways to keep yourself, your ponies and others entertained? Maybe you’ve learnt a new skill? Long reining, natural horsemanship, vegetable growing, bird watching, and even chicken agility are just a few activities we’ve already seen. Or maybe you have been on some lovely walks and you can showcase your local countryside and wildlife?

Share with us what you’ve been up to using your best photography skills

No special equipment is needed. Use selfies and timers to get yourself in the photo, shoot your family and pets or just use the world around you as your subject. We’re just looking for the most original or entertaining shots.

Win Spidge Photo Vouchers worth up to £30

We are sorry but all Pony Club Rallies and competitions have ceased with effect from Tuesday 17th March so that we can comply with the Government’s instructions regarding the control of Coronavirus. Please see the Coronavirus Advice page on The Pony Club’s website which is updated regularly:

We will be sending out some activities and fun competitions to our members via email in the Easter Holidays so that they can carry on learning at home and we will keep you updated as soon as we have any more information.

Hope you all stay safe and well,
