Pony Club 90th Anniversary

This year is a very special year for the Pony Club because it is its 90th anniversary. The Old Surrey and Burstow was one of the six founding Branches of the Pony Club – so we have been around since the very beginning!

To celebrate the 90th anniversary Saturday 3rd August has been selected to be an International Anniversary Celebration Day titled ” Ride Around the World”. Area 11 has decided to celebrate this at Hickstead, since a lot of our members will already be competing there at the SDH Pony Club Show Jumping Competition.

All members who are not competing are invited to come along on foot and join in a massive picnic and at a suitable break between SJ rounds, everyone is invited to enter the historic Hickstead main arena on foot where we are going to try to make a massive number “90” out of all the members present. Edward Bunn is kindly arranging a drone to photograph/video us from above to capture the moment!

Members are required to wear their Pony Club ties & shirts/sweatshirts on the day. We will also have an OS&B designated picnic area (BBQs are only allowed if they are off the ground and gas powered).

As you can imagine the task of organising this event with hundreds of children is going to be be challenging, so it would be great to have as much help as possible from OS&B members on the day.

We hope as many members as possible will be able to come along and be a part of Pony Club history! Please contact Caroline Matthews to let her know if you can attend.

Connect with the Countryside

Thank you to the group of dedicated OS&B members who gave a wonderful display at the Connect with the Countryside event at the South of England Showground.

Connect with the Countryside offers primary school pupils the opportunity to learn all about food, farming, the countryside and the environment. Many of the children had never been near a horse before, and they loved getting the opportunity to pat and stroke our lovely Pony Club ponies.

Thank you to all the members who took part in this brilliant display, you were a credit to the branch and have hopefully inspired some children to find out more about riding and the Pony Club!

Area Eventing 7th July 2019

Very proud of all our OS&B eventers yesterday at Area Eventing. All rode brilliantly and had such a lovely day together. Congratulations to you all.

In the PC100 Sarah Gordon was 1st, and Charlotte Vickery was 6th, and they have both qualified for the Pony Club Championships at Cholmondley Castle in August! Charlotte and Sarah have both been active members of our branch for many years so we are so proud that all their hard work on their lovely horses has paid off.

In the PC90 Ed Daniell was 3rd, Alice Shoesmith 5th, Tia Holland 8th and 10th, and Daisy Dogger and Abi Seal both had double clears. The team was 9th overall. It was great to see such lovely riding from all our members in this section, particularly out on the cross country course.

Very well done all our riders, horses and parents – a huge amount of hard work and dedication goes into competing at this level, but it is such a rewarding discipline when it comes together.

Area Dressage – Sunday 23rd June 2019

Huge congratulations to the 12 OS&B members who competed at Area Dressage at Felbridge on Sunday. It proved to be a very long day for most, and all classes were highly competitive, with around 25 competitors in each arena. However, it was lovely to see great team spirit from everyone with lots of smiling and laughing children.

Top marks go to our Regional Qualifier team of Fi, Rebecca, Gracie, and Eva who all pulled off great tests to finish 2nd overall as a team. This means that they have qualified for the Regional Championships at Horseheath at the end of August!

Individual placings were also good, with Fi coming 1st, 3rd, and 5th on her three ponies, Rebecca coming 2nd, and Gracie coming 5th. Our other competitors were just out of the placings, but it was wonderful to see such Pony Club spirit from everyone on the day.

Our Novice team of Tia, Ed, Charlotte & Daisy were placed 4th overall as a team out of more than 20 teams. Individually Tia was 2nd in her arena, narrowly missing out on a qualifying place for the Pony Club Championships, and Charlotte was 4th. Ed and Daisy also did lovely tests, really showing that all the rallies and instruction are paying off.

West Kent Sevenoaks Show Jumping – 2nd June 2019

We had lots of OS&B show jumpers out representing the branch at the West Kent Sevenoaks show jumping competition on 2nd June, with lots of great results!

Daisy, Lottie, Miranda, and Tilly kicked things off with a team 2nd in the x-poles class, with Miranda also coming individual 6th.

Evie, Lucinda, Eva, and Caspar then came team 4th in the 55cm class, with Caspar picking up individual 2nd after a great clear round. Tilly also had a great clear round as an individual.

Ruby joined a mixed team in the 75-80cm class to finish team 2nd, and Holly finished individual 2nd in the 85-90cm class.

Finally, Alice and Holly finished 2nd in the 95-100cm class as part of a mixed team.

Well done everyone, it’s lovely to see such good results from our members!

West Kent Sevenoaks Dressage Show – 2nd June 2019

All those dressage lessons at the summer evening rallies have clearly been paying off for the OS&B because our dressage teams took the top three places in the Grassroots Dressage at the West Kent Sevenoaks Dressage Show!

Huge well done to  Fi, Rebecca, Gracie, and Ruby who took 1st place, Caspar, Evie, and Fi for taking second, and Eva, Lucinda, Harley, and Fi for taking third. Fi, Rebecca, Lucinda and Miranda also won the Introductory dressage as a team.

Big thanks also goes to Pippa and Jean for organising the entries and for helping the teams on the day.

Area Horse & Pony Care – 19th May 2019

Congratulations to all of our OS&B members who competed at the Area Horse & Pony Care competition on 19th May.

A massive well-done to our mini team who won their section and have qualified for the Pony Club Championships at Cholmondeley Castle in August!

Our junior team also did very well coming 3rd out of 12 teams competing at a very high standard.

Summer Evening Rallies

Our Summer evening rallies have started again running at Carewell.

We had younger riders doing mounted games, and older ones doing Dressage, Show Jumping, and Cross Country!

Our cross country jumps are looking brilliant after the winter, and go up to 90cm so there are plenty to choose from.

Make sure you book in for the other evening rallies coming up on our online entries page, and remember to bring a picnic.

Carewell update

Our Pony Club field at Carewell is looking fabulous and ready for all the upcoming summer evening rallies.

Make sure you book in soon through our online rally bookings page to make the most of this wonderful facility.
