Dressage

Dressage is a pathway to becoming a skilled communicator with your horse and honing your riding abilities to the next level. It is the art of finesse in horsemanship, you’ll master the art of balance, control, and precision, all while building an incredible bond with your pony. The Scales of Training serve as a valuable framework for evaluating the quality of a horse’s way of going in various movements. They provide a structured approach for riders, judges, and spectators to assess the performance.

Dressage isn’t just for those aiming for Olympic gold. Whether you’re interested in show jumping, or cross-country, or just want to improve your overall skills, dressage offers a solid foundation. It’s like the backbone of equestrian sports, enhancing your horse’s agility and responsiveness to your cues. We use this to prepare our members for competitions and to improve their flatwork.

Dressage is often described as “ballet on horseback.” Riders perform a set pattern of movements (called a test) in a marked arena, demonstrating balance, obedience, rhythm, and precision. Each movement is judged and scored based on accuracy and how well the pony responds to the rider’s aids. There are different levels to suit everyone — from Walk & Trot Tests for beginners to more advanced tests for experienced riders.

Dressage training can be booked through Horse Events, keep an eye on the calendar for the next training sessions.
