What We Offer

South Pool Pony Club offer a range of activates, available for all ages and abilities.

In order to be able to compete at Area 16 Competitions, members from all branches in Area 16 must have actively participated in Branch training, rallies or volunteering at Branch activities on at least 3 occasions during the previous 12 month period unless prevented from doing so by illness, absence from home or any other reason which in the opinion of the DC and Area Rep justifies absence.

For the purpose of this Area Rule, a rally, coaching or training session or Branch activity or competition is one that has been organised by the branch committee, Area Rep or Training Committee.
In addition to demonstrating loyalty to the branch, the combination of horse and rider will be required to prove their competence, safety and fitness of horse and pony in the discipline that they wish to compete in. This can either be realised in training or by current competition records.

Dressage

What is Dressage:

Dressage is about showing the judge that you can get your pony to do what you want him to do, when you want him to do it.

You and your pony have to follow a set of instructions laid out in the dressage test.

A judge marks the test. They give you a mark out of ten for how well you carry out each instruction. At the end of the test the marks are added up and the winner is the horse and rider with the highest score.

What South Pool Has to Offer:

We hold regular flatwork rallies with experienced dressage instructors who help you learn how to work with your pony to get him/her to behave better and listen to you as a rider.  We do training both on a surface in a school as well as on a grass arena in the drier months.  We take part in regular competitions at branch and group level and have members working towards and competing at the following competitions:

Eventing

What is Eventing?

Eventing is split into three phases: Dressage, Show Jumping & Cross Country.  It involves working with your pony/horse both on the flat and over jumps. Today, the sport is most known for its cross-country phase where horse and rider gallop over an outside course of solid obstacles which the horse sometimes has never seen before.

At the end of the competition, scores for all the competitors are totalled. Each test is scored individually and the penalties accrued are added together for the final results. The lowest score is the winning score.

What does South Pool have to offer?

Our club is very fortunate to have our own cross country course which is kept in great condition, we hold regular cross country training rallies throughout the drier months and host hunter trials as well as our own one day events.  We also hire our cross country for training sessions and open schooling.  During the winter months we have out own set of arena eventing fences and carry out training at Rotherwood Moss.  We regularly have members taking part in branch, area and national competitions as individuals and teams aiming to qualify to take part in the Championships.

Show Jumping

What is show jumping?

Show Jumping is where a horse and rider combination are tested over a course of colourful obstacles, known as fences, which can be easily knocked down if they are hit. The goal is to complete the course in the fastest time without getting any faults.

Faults are gained when a fence is knocked down, the horse stops at a fence (refuse) or the horse runs around a fence (run out).

Show Jumping can take place both indoors and outdoors, so is perfect to enjoy all year round.

What does South Pool have to offer?

We have our own extensive set of show jumps with many different fillers used to train and for competitions.  In the drier months we use these fences in the grass arena at Cuttery where we hold rallies to improve our skill.  In the winter months we hold training in both indoor and outdoor arenas.  We hold our own show jumping competitions with qualifiers and compete at other competitions including:
