Pony Club Tetrathlon is very much like Modern Pentathlon, which you may have seen in the Olympics. It provides Members with a challenging competition requiring practical horsemanship, general athletic ability and a steady hand for shooting.

What are Tetrathlons, Triathlons and Biathlons?

Firstly, you don’t have to be a brilliant athlete to start – just willing to have a go. Tetrathlon has 4 disciplines – shooting, swimming, running and riding.  During the winter there are triathlons (without the riding). For the under 8’s , we have a running & swimming biathlon . Some events offer bean bag throwing for the biathletes too.

Ready reckoners are given in the Appendices of the current Pony Club Tetrathlon Rule Book

Swimming

Competitors will score points according to how far they have swum in a certain time:
4 Minutes – Open Boys:  25yrs & Under
3 Minutes – Open Girls:  25 yrs & under

2 Minutes – Minimus:  11yrs & under, Minis:9 yrs & under &  Biathletes: 8 yrs & under

Running

Runners go off at one minute intervals or in a group,  over a measured course & each competitor’s time is collected.  1000 points are gained for the target time, which is set for the course. Points are awarded or deducted  for each second under  or over that time.
