Musical Ride – Selection Appendix
Purpose
Musical Ride selection considers group-riding and choreography skills in addition to general selection criteria.
Selection Criteria
Includes:
• safe riding in close formation
• pace consistency and control
• accuracy of lines and spacing
• pony reliability in groups
• choreography learning ability
• rhythm and timing
• teamwork and attitude
• availability for practices/performances
Training Commitment
Selected riders should attend practices, notify absences promptly, practise between sessions if asked, and commit to performances. Roles may change if safety or performance requires.
Team Composition & Roles
The Musical Ride Team Manager has final authority over:
• team members
• riding positions/pairings
• choreography roles
• reserves/substitutions
• themes/costumes
• performance entries
Substitutions
Changes may occur up to performance if safety concerns arise, attendance/preparation is insufficient, pony suitability changes, or team balance requires. Team Manager/DC decisions are final.
Conflict of Interest
Handled under Branch policy. DC appoints an impartial decision-maker if needed.
Conduct
Riders must show teamwork and sportsmanship, support team members, care for equipment/costume, and represent the Branch positively. Roles or places may change if standards are not met.
