Horse and Pony Care

The Area 8 Horse and Pony Care Competition is a really fun event held on the 11th & 12th of April at Hill Farm Pony Club Centre in Elmswell.  It’s a team event and each team is made of 3 members.  It’s not a quiz but a theory and practical test very like our Pony Club tests.  Because it’s a team event even the shyest, quietest children can excel and join in happily.

Teams are divided into age groups:  Mini – 10 years and under Junior – 13 years and under Senior – 14 – 25 years old

Each competition (eg mini/junior/senior) takes about 2 hours with a break for cake in the middle.  Teams make their way around different ‘stations’, each of which comprises a different theory or practical based topic.  10 mins are spent at each station.  All questions are age and skills appropriate based on the Pony Club test guidelines.   The competition is unmounted so all members are welcome. 

Catherine Sutherland & Erin Wittich are in the process of setting up training sessions to make sure we are well prepared.  

Winners of the Area competition can go through to the Pony Club Championships in August.
